1) To downgrade to 1.5, use GTA:LCS UNPATCHED. As that is quite rare, your best bet is
eBay. A custom firmware is recommended, and doesn't take much to install, but isn't required.
2) HEN=Homebrew Enabler. You can ask questions here, and we will help you.
3) You can do all of that AND have a higher firmware by using a custom one. You can also emulate PS1 if you use a custom firmware. Custom firmwares can even change the way your XMB (your PSPs operating system) looks. I.E. Customized wavy background lines, custom XMB icons, custom battery icons/volume bars, etc.
P.S. The PSP3D search tool and
Google are your friends when you require help downgrading/installing custom firmwares.
