I dont know any answer to yr questions but i really recommend the 1.5 fw to u. The Devhook thing is awesome (if u have some UMD to put in the mechanics). The most problematic game -> GTA LCS runs smoothly on my PSP 1.5 with DevHook 0.46

I, on the other hand, recommend a custom firmware, as any game that doesn't work by the XMB can just be run via Devhook.

And yes, you must downgrade, but first, upgrade to 2.71. To do this -

Getting from 2.70 or below to 2.71
  1. Download this file. Do not rename it.
  2. Connect your PSP to PC, using either a USB cable or a MS Pro Duo adapter. If you use USB, remember to activate USB mode on your PSP.
  3. Navigate to the folder \PSP\GAME in your PSP's window on your PC.
  4. If there is no folder called UPDATE, create one.
  5. Go inside this folder. Delete anything that is inside.
  6. Copy the file you downloaded into this folder.
  7. Once that's done, unplug your PSP or put the MS back into the PSP.
  8. Navigate to Game - Memory Stick on your PSP's menu, and start the 2.71 updater app.
  9. Once that's done, you will be on 2.71 and ready to downgrade to 1.50, which will allow you to upgrade to a custom firmware.

To downgrade to 1.50 from 2.71? Check your PM inbox, but please do not share the file I give you with anyone else, please instead direct them to me so I can give them a copy. The file is a noob-friendly guide for upgrading to 2.71, but I don't think I will be releasing it to the public until I get 2 more testers to make sure there aren't any details I missed. So far, 3 people have successfully downgraded, and nobody has failed to downgrade using my guide. If you tell me of any mistakes or missed details I will be very grateful!

No. People with under 500 posts are sometimes much smarter than people with over 500 - take theaceoffire as an example. He's a great guy, contributes loads the the community, and has written some great guides. He helps people out a lot too, and guess how many posts he has? Just under 400. Just because people have a lower amount of posts on these forums doesn't mean they don't have a right to give an opinion and/or help people out with whatever knowledge they have.

theaceoffire's first post was a very useful guide detailing how to upgrade to 2.71 SE-A.
