Homebrew on PSP 3003 fw. 5.01

Hello, I used to be a PSP guru but having bricked 2 of them and being laid off work my psp awareness has dwindled. I treated myself to a brand new 3003 slim and lite yesterday, dusted off 3 MS loaded with Homebrew. To my dissapointment the days of loading Homebrew and Emu's via GTA has long gone! Ha ha..!!

I've tried to install ChickHEN and change the FW to 5.03 and download a number of other apps like custom firm wire loaders etc to no avail. Is the fact that Im on 5.01 a problem? The FW is still showing 5.01 even though I'm following all the Readme's to the letter.

Thanks in advance.

find a copy of sony's ofw 5.03. do not update through the psp fw updater on xmb(you'll wind up with 5.51)
then follow the ChickHEN instructions and be aware there is also a cfw enabler that can be used with chickhen.
also (i cant remeber) it may take a couple tries to enable ChickHEN because of its instability, but there is no harm to psp
take care, good luck
let us know if any other q's

Thanks gdspsp..I've managed to find a copy of ofw 5.03. Where do I place that eboot.pbp file? Do I have to delete anything?

Edit: worked out what to do. Thanks for the help Gdspsp.

well funny you should ask that..im still having no luck with making ChickHEN work. Ive done exactly what I should be doing but its not booting up.The tiff file and other pics are in the PHOTO folder. the h.bin file is on the root etc. I do all the things I read that you should be doing once you're in the Photo folder on the main psp menu but all it does is freeze then shut down.

edit: ok got it to work by some fluke way..went to try one of my emu I had from the GTA era and it crashed and switched off the psp. Its now gone back to 5.03 regular! arghhhh (smashes head on desk). This is why i prefered the old way (via the gta exploit) at least when the psp crashed or switched off there was no dramas.

i have read sometimes it takes a few tries to enable the ChickHEN. and of course if it crashes the system then you have to start over...

Try downloading a newer version of the homebrew you wish to run. Some apps need to be reworked to work with newer exploits and firmwares.
