Hello, I will first off state, I am a noob. Don't discredit what I have to say here, this could be of some valuable insight. I have worked with DOS, pocket pc, and windows operating systems and various files and have come to the conclusion that the psp is the same as any other system. It can be hacked. I'm looking at version 2.6 since that is what I have. Here is my theroy, you're welcome to either prove it works, or prove me wrong.
I'm using PBP Unpacker v0.94 to extract the files. I'm suggesting this as a downgrade, or a global rewrite of the system core. I also use a hex editor to see alot of characters. In the psp system istelf, it uses 24bit-bitmaps for the backgrounds. I haven't done this yet, but compare the 1.5 or 1.0 version of the EBOOT.PBP file, with the EBOOT.PBP of 2.6.
The characters I see are the same as opening a picture file in dos edit or under windows notepad. I say seperate where the bitmaps start and end at, then look at the rest of the files. The icon file ICON0.PNG is irrelevant so disregard it. Next, look at the PARAM.SFO file. I'm not a programmer by any means, but if you need to modify the boot parameters naturally this is where you go, if that is even necessary. Then, look at the DATA.PSP and DATA.PSAR files. One of those will have the bitmap pictures in it.
The reason I talk about this is because once that code is isolated, it can either be modified, or left as is so you can see what the rest of the coding parameters are. This way, possibly, if my theroy is correct, it is the additional software that Sony is incorporating that is preventing downgrading, and homebrew from running. If we could isolate the coding for each individual program say the internet browser and rss and location free, we could then determine wether we could just replace those programs with emulators say for the NES or SNES or whatever a person prefers.
Yes, this would void the piss out of the warranty, but big deal. If we could just rewrite the values for the programs and see the base structure for 2.6 or 2.5, then Sony could never come up with an update that would prevent apps and homebrew because we could just code the entire operating and instruction system ourselves. If anyone with any experience with coding, hacking, or just sits in their parents basement that has any drop of computer talent that is willing to try this, then please email me at

Simply write an entire EBOOT.PBP file by comparing two different ones. One that allows for homebrew (1.0 or 1.5) and one that doesn't (2.5 or 2.6)
Thanks for hearing me out.
