Its time for a modchip

Sony have pretty much won. I mean come on it wont be long before you cant play anything without the latest firmware, and that firmware will be locked up tighter than a nuns chuff. Its time for a modchip people, its the only way to leave psp hacking future proof.

Its the way to go

Has anyone opened up their PSP to see how much room is inside to stick in a modchip? Is it too much to hope for that the chip will allow all isos to play on all firmwares??? Its the only way to kick Sony into touch. Hackers will soon get bored of constantly being beaten on this one I reckon.

Any news on PSP2? a few bogus? rumours going around.

bored?

you think hackers will get bored of constantly beating Sony? I don't think so

How will a modchip make it future proof? who's to say a modchip working for 2.0 will work for 2.6? And what function would the modchip have, and where exactly would a modchip go? Its not like the old PSX where all you needed to do was inject 4 ascii letters into a serial stream that was supposed to come off the CD.

I personally dont think the answer is in a modchip. IMHO there will be a big breakthrough that will make all this bantying around moot.

I wonder how many versions of firmware they will bring out before it has to stop. It would have to come to an end sometime otherwise the risk making thier OWN games incompatible.

As far as a PSP2, the PSP is, to date, (arguably)the best handheld ever, so you would think they would be looking to make another. Probably have 3D holograph, mind control and unhackable.

Well a modchip gets hard wired and can completly bypass any firmware and checks. It goes straight to the root of the hardware and when one is perfected it will enable you to do pretty much anything. I'm not saying it will be anytime soon but I am saying that its what we need and will beat software hacking any day.

My God, some of you kids think that after the xBox and PS2 "mod-chips" came out that every console needs a mod-chip.
Guess what kids? The firmware in the PSP is FLASHABLE. There's your clue as to why the PSP doesn't need a modchip.

Let me say that modchips definately DO NOT work as you suggested.

I used to write code for the modchips and installed hundreds of them back then.

the models of the playstations were something like scph1002, 5002, 7002, 7502, 9002, 9502. It started out that each different model required a different modchip code, some were then made to work in all models except 9502 and then after about 2 years there were chips that could boot any model.

Some games even had a modchip detector and wouldn't run, so we had to put a button on the PSX to disable the chip after booting. Then finally that was sorted with just the chip.

lets say you do get a chip that works for any current firmware. Sony just has to write a modchip detector function into a few new games and there you go... new chip required. It really isnt any different than the current work on all the new firmwares.
