Points: 3.53 Donate | | | Bricking Virus I, and hopefully every other PSP owner am aware of the trojan. I wanted to know some of the specifics though. I heard it is disguised as a homebrew game-anyone know if its a certain specefic one? Also, has it been contained or is it spreading to the point that it could be in any download you make to your PSP? Just a little backround info is what Im looking for... |

I want to know a little bit more (the questions I thought I clearly stated) because Im planning on homebrew as soon as I can downgrade. And dont get the idea Im gonna download every kind of homebrew out there, I just want some idea on what not to download and what to download. |

| | | | So long as you get your home brew for a reliable source and not from a p2p or torrent you should be ok. Best to check if anyone else has used that same file.
Normaly if a new program comes out there will be a discussion about it.
And if it's on a site a "bricker" will be spotted and taken off pretty quickly
However there are experimental programs out there that are still in testing stages and could brick your psp. best to stay away from these unless you realy want it and have a warrenty.
IFIK norton will think a lot of homebrew is the psp bricker and cant be trusted to spot the psp virus.
Hope this helps. We are all new once. |

| | | | See thats the thing mate, norton picks it up but it also picks up homebrew as well. dont know if any AV know how to spot the diffence yet.
AFAIK the psp "virus" isnt a virus in the tradional sence of a self replicating piece of code. Its a programe that pretends to be a downgrader or some such that either performs the job badly and bricks or is designed to brick.

@mfaheypride

The reason a virus is called a "virus" is due to it's self-replicating nature.
A trojan doesn't self-replicate, so it's not a computer virus, which is why it's called a "trojan".
Many people get that wrong. | |
