FW 2.01 Downgrader, possible?

This is posted as a result of recent comments by Fanjita, and several other psp hackers from all over the internet, who all say FW 2.01 is quite crackable, especially compared to 2.5/2.6, as it is the same as 2.00, with the exception of the tiff bug fix, basically.

What I'd like to know is, if this is the case, which I believe it is, why there isn't a downgrader for 2.01 yet? Surely there were other exploits found when they were looking into downgrading 2.00, besides the tiff one, and they just went for the tiff one because it was the easiest one?

Unfortunately, I have no hacking knowledge at all, but I would like to see if I could possibly gather information on 2.00 or 2.01 exploits, so one of you hackers can make a 2.01 downgrader with it.

I bought my PSP with 2.01 on it, you see, and the store won't return my money; I was aware of homebrew, and in no way upgraded without thinking. I've kept my PSP at 2.01, because I figured that would sooner be cracked than 2.5, but as it turns out, I'm wrong, since everybody is looking into 2.5/2.6 now.

Bought a 2.01 the other day (in the UK) and was thinking the same thing, I've since moved to 2.50 because thats what most people are talking about cracking :P

Ill chop my toes off now if someone cracks 2.01

I could be wrong, but I think there is almost an over/under with PSP's wherein the fact is people probably either stayed at 2.0 and lower or went 2.01 and higher. As a result it would make sense to help out the larger majority first, making an exploit for the 2.01 only helps the small percentage of people who are @ 2.01, but if you were to exploit 2.5 or even 2.6 than you would also be helping everyone with a lower firmware inclusinve.

Agreed, but if a 2.01 downgrader is as easy as I'm led to believe it is, it won't take too long, and as far as I can tell, a 2.5 downgrade isn't making much progress thus far, if at all possible.

I'm pretty sure there are a fair amount of people with 2.01, who're waiting for the 2.5 downgrader together with the 2.5 people, because they mean to upgrade to 2.5, in order to downgrade. Or just people like me, with 2.01, waiting for a 2.01 downgrade.

As for psp3d.com, having a 2.01 downgrade would be excellent publicity. While I have faith in this website and its crew, I notice alot of other PSP fora call psp3d all kinds of bad names, call them unreliable.

Well they are not wrong in saying that (the latter part that is), most other PSP/homebrew communities are not as gullible/susceptible to people who like to bullshit others for the sake of attention/annoyance....good site admins request people to provide proof of their claims (or at least detailed explanations to backup their credibility) about PSP exploits...and to avoid the unneccessary excitement (and then nearly inevitable disappointment) that has happened numerous times last week (or the week before?) here at PSP3D it is my opinion that the people running this site should also ask for such proof.

Simply for the sake of this sites credibility.

Meh, I'm tired atm...didn't write that too clearly.

If you've got any sense at all (and don't need the features in 2.5/2.6) then you won't upgrade a v2.01 PSP yet.

The ONLY barrier to downgrading a 2.01 is that currently no-one has been able to run any code on v2.01, because the only known way to do that (via the TIFF exploit) was fixed. That is the ONLY difference between 2.01 and 2.00.

If code can be run on 2.01 (and there are good indications recently that it can) then downgrading it is simple.

For v2.5, it's a very different matter. No code can yet be run on v2.5, so the first barrier is the same. But there's an additional barrier that no-one has any idea of how to perform a downgrade on v2.5, even once they have code running. If you follow the currently-known downgrading methods, then you WILL brick v2.5.

Remember that if a viable downgrader for v2.5 is released, then v2.5 users will be able to use it. v2.01 users will also be able to use it, by upgrading to v2.5 first.

But if a 2.01 downgrader is released - only v2.01 users can use it. v2.5 users will be SOL.

The v2.01 user-base is also not small. Almost every PSP currently being sold is v2.01. v2.5 users chose to put themselves out of the game.

Exactly my point.

Thats exactly my point. Often do we hear people calling the guys with FW2.01 stupid, while usually, alot of them bought their PSP's with this. Yes, they do sell 2.5 PSP's, but the vast majority of 2.5 PSP's out there are 2.5 because of peoples ignorance on the firmware matter.

Thank you, Fanjita, for furthering my point. I seriously do hope someone is willing to look into this matter, and hope to see a 2.01 downgrader sometime.
