Sice it is possible to i.e. upgrade 1.5 -> 2.5 directly, those changes made to the firmware have to be in every firmware that is and will be published. If it was in 2.01 only, people who update to 2.01 would have it and others, who upgraded 2.5 or 2.6 would have not. |

So even if you find the private you will be able to decode the firmware but you can't re-encode it then... And 2.01+ will not allow you to run decoded Eboots!
And I really doubt the fact that the key is in the flash. It is probably inside a trapped chip. I know trapped chips cause the same happens with cablecrypt decoders! They have a chip with an 128 bit decryption code! If you try to read the code with external means, the chip is toast! I'm sure its the same with the PSP. SONY started using it from version 2.00 and above! This doesn't mean it didn't exist! The hardware was there but it has not been used till SONY realized that hackers are serious out there... I think it was like a plan B: "First leave it unlocked so as people see its hacked and buy it. Then one day lock it and leave everyone hitting their heads!"

but suppose we could decrypt and re-encrypt the firmware. shouldn't we be able to make a custom version with all the 2.6 (or 3.0 when i't avalibe) WITH homebrew support?
and if it's on a chip... it just takes ONE leak to ruin the whole company, they wouldn't be able to change the key if it came out... no way they would be able to recall all psp´s out there..
and if it´s on a chip.. shouldn't we be able to find it out with and older version (read 1.5) firmware that doesn't use it?
the psp decrypt the eboots and run them. can't we tell the psp to decrypt it and store it? and then compare the decrypted file with the encrypted one to find out the key?
just throwing toughts out there no serios suggestions just small talk |

and code is allways code so.. if we scan the unencryped code and see what letter is most common, and do the same with the encrypted one, shouln't that be the same letter on both but the encrypted one will be another cuz it's encrypted? |

on the key where u say if i came out it would screw sony u r right. it would be so bad i bet they would stop making games for it and just work on making a new psp and make it so hard to hack it would be pointless to try. what i think is that just like before, if we just keep messing with different ideas and files without the key sooner or later we would be able to down grade it. all that would make sony do is patch that part that was bad with a new fireware update.i really dont think the key will be found. but i do think that some day soon some one will just randomly find a file that will start the downgrade by almost all luck. | |
