Question how would you edit the psp symbols on the xmb
are there actual pictures of the symbols on the xmb in the dump of flash0 or are they in some special format?

I don't know, but they'd most likely be in a very unique format. If you're looking to edit them, you'd need to find a program that can do so. And I think they lie in the flash0.
