Early versions of the PlayStation 2 have a buffer overflow bug in the part of the BIOS that handles PS1 game compatibility; hackers figured out how to turn this into a loophole called PS2 Independence Exploit.
Sony also released an official homebrew-development kit that allows Playstation 2 to run Linux

ok im not telling the truth about the psp but the ps2 has homebrew and the ps3 when it comes out will have homebrew why not the psp? |

Points: 1.65 Donate | | | because a iso loader wasnt made on the ps2 so sony wouldnt care then because they still make money. yet on the psp there is an iso loader for 1.5 then sony tried to make evertone updates to stop it. so allowing homebrew on a higher version could lead to a iso loader and everyone knows sony doesnt want that because they loose money so they wont allow homebrew on psp. |

Points: 1.66 Donate | | | Homebrew on ps2 when you have a psp really isn't worth it. You have to buy mod-chip and have some other stuff for it to work, and in the end you just get the same emulators you can run on psp, but you have to be rooted to one place while playing them.
