chip

hello does any 1 know what chip inside the psp the filmware is stored..would it not be possible to remove this and program it with a psp 2.0 filmware so basicly u would be flashing it to version 2...u would need a version 2.0 psp aswell to take the dumps from.and something to program it with ....any hints

remove the epprom ?? and how you put it back in to your psp ?

yea you can remove the motherboard to the psp and put a new one in, however a new one costs like $150 U.S. i believe

There are a few people who claim to have the equipment to do this. Would be good if it were possible, but no ones sucessfully done it yet.

i dont want to buy a motherboard i want to work out a way to downgrade...now if i could see a pix of the guts of a psp and if some 1 nows what chip excactly holds the filmware then we might be able to remove it and reprogram it to the filmware we want......i have a rework station and am a brilliant solderer.....i think kernal knows what im pointing at....

yeah. There is some universal downgrader group. I dont remmeber their website, which are asking for old psp's to do try this on.

You are referencing to Matt, John, and my project, I presume.

And yes, we are working on a Universal Downgrader / Unbricker that will work exactly how you stated, and yes we have the proper equipment, but desoldering the chip is the least of our worries, you can do that easily with a spatula tipped soldering iron and some flux or, better yet, with a hot air desolderer, which is also more dangerous because in the process of using it, you could damage the chip or desolder other points on the mainboard which you don't want desoldered.

Read more on our website, and no, we aren't looking for PSP's anymore, BillBaggins already donated his, it is in the mail and we will receive it tomorrow, if UPS isn't a liar!
