Farthest Progress On 2.5 Downgrader To Date?

Well, after a lot of contemplating as to whether or not this project is real, or just another fake, we are releasing this video by Train2335 to the public for you all to check out for yourself. The project has been confirmed to be a dead end, meaning you should not expect any real, complete downgraders out of it, whether or not the video is real or not. It's still pretty cool stuff, and it's nice to still see some people working on cracking Sony's latest firmwares. Although not a lot of information has been released on how this '2.0 update loading on 2.5 firmware' was possible at the time of this video's release, we have been told involves a bunch of "hex/MD5 edits" of a 2.0 EBOOT file. Hopefully, we might be able to see a public release of the files by Train2335 sometimes in the near future. But anyways, grab some popcorn, and take a good look at the video, and decide for yourself.

Here are some reasons why we believe the video to be real:
-MAC address is the same both at beginning of video and at end.
-During the game bootup screen, where the screen turns white with the PSP logo, you can see the words PlayStation Portable underneath, which shows that it is a 2.0 or higher PSP.
-System settings show 2.5 (although we all know how easy it is to edit it).
-Network icon.
-There are no slowdowns/freezes during the video, everything goes by smooth, and under careful frame-by-frame examination, there are not major shifts in the PSPs location on the video, no major light differences, or any other peculiarities.

However, you should take the video with a "grain of salt" so to speak. The people behind this project have not had the greatest track record as far as liability, and we will keep you updated as more information or releases come out. Just remember, there is no 2.5 downgrader and this will not lead to one.

like i've always said. if they've been able to load a 2.0 and or 1.5 eboot on a 2.5 its great progress, just a shame they cant get that extra little % across the line.

Unfortunately, the video is not real, nor is the progress. As I pointed out in the thread where they released this video. the part of the video that displays the version number goes in and out of focus at a different rate and time than the rest of the screen it's on. I've got a couple screenshots demonstrating what I'm talking about:

and

Notice how blurry the version number text is in both of these, when the MAC address and user nicknames are in perfect focus. The only reason for out-of-synch blurring and fading would be that the image of the screen was edited in video editing software.

The sheer number of factual inaccuracies that PSP******** claims about this downgrader are mind-boggling.

For example, their claim that the so-called "md5repro" software that writes MD5 checksums is a corporate secret. First, supa_sick said that his uncle had given this to him. Then butterballer told me that Train's father works for HP corporate, and that's where they got it.

They claimed that the first video was leaked and they didn't make it. However, both videos use rap music as the background, both claim to be made by Train2335, and both were put on YouTube by Birdman1.

After it was proven that the first video was fake, butterballer and the others were quick to claim that they were totally unrelated to it. So why was it officially put online by the same person who put this one up?

Butterballer has admitted to me that they had no idea what sort of encryption the update EBOOTs used.

You know what? Screw this. I'm going to let PSP********'s own words ruin them. For example, where they claim that Train released a fake video and was "banned" from PSP********.

[2006-03-09 20:16:01] butter360: i didnt make the vid

[2006-03-09 20:17:04] butter360: i know
[2006-03-09 20:17:07] %FreePlay: and you never will
[2006-03-09 20:17:09] butter360: we dont ahve it

Let's list the lies they've told so far, shall we?
1. The original video was leaked (by Train). Obviously not true, since it's on Birdman1's YouTube page.
2. Forging MD5 checksums is enough to make the update run. Also not true, since the updates must be encrypted using Sony's private 128-bit AES Rijndael key, or they won't even go through to the update's introduction screen.
3. Supa_sick didn't know about the original video and was upset that the video was released. Actually, in the thread on PSPForums where the video was released (which has since been deleted), supa_sick insulted me for even suggesting it was fake and then went on to defend it.
4. The files Butterballer gave PSP3D were 3 months old. Actually, no. The earliest datestamp on any of the files was for mid-February.
5. Butterballer doesn't have anything to do with the video. The day the video was released, Butterballer posted a scathing flame on the PSPUpdates forum in which he said the video was real.
6. Butterballer claimed to have sent the wrong files to PSP3D. So the wrong files just happened to have a Readme and a folder with the word "downgrader" in its name?

When I confronted butterballer with this evidence over IRC and AIM, he and kid101skater started making threats.

[2006-03-09 20:09:09] %FreePlay: from PSPUpdates: "dont bash me nor my team I make me your friend the world keeps spinning make me you enemy the world isnt big enough for you to hide in"
(20:23:59) kevin360rocket: u got 20 ppl gunna come for ya soon
(20:33:57) butterballer360: you need to watch who you lie about
(20:39:39) butterballer360: but im warning you, I know people in the right places who dont like you fucking with them and their sites
(20:41:36) butterballer360: heed my warning
(20:41:44) butterballer360: stop this feud
(20:41:52) butterballer360: and stopo your bullshit
(20:42:13) butterballer360: your loss. for so many reasons which you will see...
(20:44:31) butterballer360: I bid you farewell, I am busy...make the right decison...

Also, on another note, kid101skater is lying about the font exploit, too.
(20:14:02) kevin360rocket: i aint sayin shit to u
(20:14:12) Me: that's good
(20:14:23) kevin360rocket: i got way more than u think and that freeplay ever thinks fuckin possible
(20:14:27) kevin360rocket: if he could think
(20:14:34) Me: lol (20:14:38) Me: funny
(20:15:03) Me: because Skylark and I were up for eight hours last night hacking the registry parsing functions, and there isn't a single bit of it that is exploitable
(20:15:15) Me: not one function.
(20:15:18) Me: anywhere.

(20:15:34) Me: or did you already know that
(20:16:08) Me: hmm, nope, you didn't I see
(20:16:13) kevin360rocket: whatever
(20:16:15) kevin360rocket: who are u fag
(20:16:24) Me: This is FreePlay, dumbass.
(20:16:39) kevin360rocket: well guess what
(20:16:41) Me: Skylark, one of the programmers behind the TIFF exploit, went through the registry parsing code.
(20:16:42) kevin360rocket: i got code to run
(20:16:47) Me: NONE of it is exploitable.
(20:16:54) Me: So you're full of it.
(20:16:55) kevin360rocket: SO HAHA BITCH!

(20:16:56) Me: 100% guaranteed.

(20:17:27) kevin360rocket: ok so tell me this did u test font files, where shit goes and more shit?
(20:17:29) Me: and I know that without fixupdreg2, you can't even USE the edited registry
(20:17:44) Me: Yes, we're currently reverse-engineering the font format right now.
(20:19:57) kevin360rocket: whatever we will see who wins this
(20:20:07) Me: so when you modified the IREG, did you use a straight or reversed checksum?
(20:20:20) kevin360rocket: dude u just need to shut ur fuckin mouth
(20:20:24) kevin360rocket: im working on my shit

(20:20:29) Me: It's not a matter of winning. It's a matter of you not having a damn clue what you're doing.
(20:20:48) Me: You didn't even realize that the data had checksums.
(20:20:49) kevin360rocket: yes i fuckin do
(20:20:59) kevin360rocket: md5 checksums

(20:20:59) Me: You thought you could just put a straight edited DREG on the PSP and it'd work.
(20:21:01) Me: WRONG
(20:21:02) Me: SHA1

(20:21:06) kevin360rocket: whatever
(20:21:10) kevin360rocket: who cares
(20:21:16) kevin360rocket: i still am further than u
(20:21:25) kevin360rocket: and u need to shut the fuck up
(20:21:34) Me: here, this might help you
(20:21:34) Me: http://www.svsu.edu/~mcmcelro/freepl...istry.prx.html
(20:21:45) Me: notice the import of sceKernelUtilsSha1Digest::
(20:21:57) Me: which means you're lying.
(20:22:05) Me: because you have no idea what you're talking about.

If this isn't enough evidence that they're all lying, I've got an 1800-line-long log of all of the conversations I've had with them.
