Post 3.0: The end of firmware?

Hackers have been increasingly resourceful in cracking frimware to get homebrew running to those who want it, but is 3.0 the end of homebrew?

I for one think yees. Not because sony will block all possible routes to homebrew and make all new gamses require 3.0 (well that too) but because they have taken a new route.

Reading the news, I saw they are planning a ps1/2 emulator for 3.0. Thats what I think will end homebrew. I mean what $0 budget home-coded game can compete with a library of sony classics?

People will get bored of trying to get the increasingly inferior homebrew onto 3.0, and it will die out. Sure, it was cool playing BOR, and all the 'famous' PSP homebrew games; you were getting something for nothing. But are you going to stick on 1.5-2.6 for your homebrew up upgrade and open up a new load of higher quality games?

Firstly the ps1 emu is not 100 % confirmed. Secondly who says they arent gonna charge $20 plus per game? maybe it wont run off normal roms?

I do know exactly what you are saying, even if it was $5 a game i would upgrade i think, as it is a huge libarary. Im keen to see what else is released with any new firmware ( not confirmed it will be 3.0 ), there are far more interesting thing i would upgrade for such as

pop3 email client
Voip Telephony
Decent IM functins
GPRS
Decent buffer in browser

etc

Lets wait and see untill sony give us the news its all just rumors, and as i said in my other posts, sony will not keep this a secret, They want you to upgrade, so the chances are they will be advertising alot of info when the release is due. The more hype they can get about the new features the better.

Well I dont know. It really all depends, but sometimes I get the feeling that homebrew is dying out too. I mean yea its cool to download a new game or two, but after like 3 times of playing whatever, it just gets boring.

A PS1/Ps2 emulator like the one Sony has planned will kick ass. But as far as 3.0 being the 'last' firmware (thats how you made it sound), no, there will be many many more firmwares in the future.

New firmware means new possible exploits.

Does anyone know for sure if the emulator will require you to use playstation games you own or will we have to pay to download them.
