with stuff like "i have the greatest idea yet" followed by some pointless guessing because he doesn't know how? at least he could learn to hex edit before he tells something about the subject.
that's the same as if i was an alien and would try to understand another language from scratch when there's a dictionary and inspite of that i say: "that's it, i know how this language works" before you even heard the first sentence.
i agree that sometimes the best ideas are born out of chaos, but you oughta have at least some background knowledge, for f**ck's sake!!
and i don't think that people like him contribute to the "scene", i guess he even doesn't know how the firmware is written etc., he just guesses, and that he could do in any irc channel.

encryption don't work that way

I may be wrong but isn't the firmware encrypted? If so encryption schemes use padding so even if you encrypted the same file twice they would look completely different. There is no way to accuratly check for changes if it is encrypted. Oh yah...and checksum f's it all to hell anyway. Beign a psp nub but a programmer, where can I go to find people who actually know what they are talkign about, I get the feelign most posters on this board are 10 years old.

Check out the forums at ps2dev.org as the main centre for knowledgeable technical discussion. Noobs beware - you won't be welcome there, so stay away.
