I think that this will involve interfacing with PSP cpu too and that would be harder than NAND (that is already hard enough)...

So we can forget about 2.5 and 2.6 downgraders if PSP was originally with them.
Sorry for this dumb question, but I heard that 2.01(ones who comes with gigapack) has also new hardware, or maybe I am just mistaking?

what i heard is that after the downgrader was released Sony rushed to release a new firmware update with the tiff exploit properly patched, and that since it happend just before christmas they opened the 2.00 gigapack boxes and replashed the psp's with the 2.01 firmware.

I checked at that time in the internet and the gigapack was supposed to be released with the 2.00 firmware. Therefore, hardwarewise, 2.01 should be like a 2.00 one.

You seriously believe Sony would do something so costly and wasteful of time??

I visit other websites as well, freeplay, and a lot of pple said that the boxes were double wrapped with one of the wrappings already open. Mine is a 2.01 but i made my girlfriend to open it to check the firmware (it was my christmas present from her) so I couldn't check the wrapping thing.

here I leave you the specs (as sony released them)

http://shopping.msn.com/Specs/shp/?itemId=138261852

and what's more costly, having all the gigapacks with the possibility of downgrading (therefore huge videogame sales loss) or giving a 2.01 firmware UMD to all the retailers to manually upgrade the psp's? k'mon, everybody knows that the main season for videogames sales is christmas!

i actually think that what they did is sort of illegal, telling you that the firmware that comes is 2.0 when the one that came was 2.01.
