Post Hardware downgrader

Hello, sorry for starting a thread about a downgrader (I hope that this one doesn't fill up with useless messages ). I saw in a recent closed thread the following citation by chriscooke109

Quote:
There is but it is a hardware downgrader and not everyone can build that and it is risky. And the reason a software downgrader hasn't been released is because there hasn't been a way found to execute the neccasary code.
I would be quite intrested in that method... It's only for speculation as I'm a computer engineer and really intrested in this kind of stuff (actually I used my psp only for about a week, but I like a lot all this hacking stuff). Please answer only if you know something or if it's a confirmed fake.

Hi
A while back I remember visiting a web page which claimed to be working on
hardware downgrader. Can't remember the adress though.
Anyway, they would downgrade(or even unbrick) your PSP by taking it apart and "reflashing" the flash chip which contained the firmware. I'm not sure how successful they were and personally I think taking my PSP apart would be too big of a risk but it did seem like a really interesting idea.

This is a universal downgrader, that means that it will work on every firmware, no mather what sony does.

Thanks... That site is really intresting... So they have found the pinout of a serial interface on the nand chip... That can lead to something as will avoid desoldering the flash and compromise the memory bus.

It's also intresting the link that they give on the homepage... I love that pictures, reminds me of many of my pc "homemade" peripheals

well technicly, if you replaced the index.dat, brick. if you completely reflashed to 1.5, then that might work.

however, if sony altered the BIOS to only be compatible with thier encrypted files on newer models, then they could prevent it.

this could also be done via a firmware update, to influence the bios, then downgrading from that fw would be impossible.

that would be cool a universal downgrader that works on all firmwares, so even if you brick you could reflash it

Hmmm.. Very interesting. Would be a big + if it is successful but it does sound risky. So this thing supposely then will downgrade any psp to 1.5 or 1.0 even if it was / is bricked?
