Implications of Modchip - Your ideas and opinions

Imagine custom firmwares created by the community able to run the latest games and homebrew - That is of course if the company responsible for this technological wonder don't get sued into submission first. Will it cause piracy to destroy the PSP software industry or improve it?

Your ideas and opinions...

yeah, but if they make a way so 1.5'ers cant play newer games, then with or without a modchip, u wont be able to pirate the newer games.

I don't condone or support piracy in any way but personally I think the company should have a way to copy your own legitamitally(I know I suck at spelling) bought games and dump the iso onto your computer cuz the one that we got now is way to complicated. But i think they should stick with the plan they're going with being able to reflash the part that has the firmware.

I think that the best thing that could happen with that modchip is ... say porting the linux kernel to the PSP and booting it right with system startup ... yeah, babyyy

since the videogame industry manages more numbers than music and movies together (benefits of a game>>>>>>benefits of a movie or an album) I don't think it'll bring the videogame industry into a chaos.

Just look at the PC games, copied and re-copied, and still they are released! I'm very sick of this piracy-criminality thing. Personally I've been copying movies music and games since i had a commodore, a VCR and a cassete recorder, and nothing happened then... nothing like the old times!

good points juanjo but look at the UMD's movies, people dont buy them they just watch them of there memory card. arnt Sony gona discontinue them? so if every one had the choice to download games and put them on there memory stick, they would.

UMD has been a huge mistake, from my point of view, that sony has made. I'm not here to discuss what should have been the perfect media storage for the psp, but the fact that an UMD is as expensive as a normal DVD is a clear disavantage. if only sony should have thought in an USB-to-RGB solution, let's put it in, around 50 bucks, to use the psp as a portable movie player, and for those who'd love to play their games in the TV when possible, maybe the UMD would have had a chance.

I still remember the minidisk, very good quality, but so "posh" to record onto, until the .net support appeared, too late since the mp3 players were all over the place...

Sometimes, trying to set up a standard to be used in their advantage sony only reaches dead ends... will it happen as well with the blu-ray?

I think this Mod-Chip may cause the PSP to overheat, it gets pretty hot now when you have the Wi-Fi switch on, so I wonder if the PSP can't cool it's self sufficiently enough without any hardware mods, then how could it cope with a Mod-Chip? I will still get one I am willing to risk it hopefully that issue will not arise.

You have to realize that the majority of PSP owners arent as into the homebrew aspect as you guys are, to the average everday psp owner, this isnt really news since homebrew is kinda boring anyway.
