IDEA - Network Update... Look inside

so i just thought, does the psp open any update during the network update once it has been downloaded, regarless of the fw version ect..

Because if so, then i think we could create a fake server or forward traffic, that the psp will think its downloading an update from sony's servers.

otherwise, we could take out the MS during download and find where the update is stored, and maybe see if the location is different, and if it is, see if there are any paths down that route.

Im only thinking of ideas here.
Anything towards the community.
MiG

This will not work, sure it may be possible that you could make a fake server. BUT, to run the update you still have to go to GAME -> Memory stick -> then to the update, This method is the same as downloading the update from sony site onto your computer but then to the memory stick, except it cuts out the middle man.
The update is ALWAYS stored on the MS in the GAME folder in a folder called UPDATE.
Nice i dea though
Nate

Good idea, but it won't work for several reasons:

1) It doesn't matter where the update comes from, it'll still boot from the MS under GAME.

2) Using, say, a 1.5 EBOOT after the real update has been downloaded will give you the same error you'd normally recieve after selecting it through the XMB.

3) When the PSP asks you "..to install the update now, press X...", think of that screen as if you were under MS in GAME. It will give you every error you'd usually get. There's nothing really special about Network Update in this case.

A little OT, I have found an interesting glitch which I mentioned a while back. (This should work on up to 2.70, a firmware which is obsolete.)
When you get the message "Network Update has found a later version...", press O, move to "Yes", then, press X two times really fast. You should end up looking at a O% downloading screen, which will remain that way until you exit normally.

I know this is going slightly off topic but do you know when people try to trick the psp into updating (well downgrading) by loading a memory card with a new update then swaping the memory card with a different one with for example 1.5fw is because the memory card slot has a switch kind of thing so the psp detects that the memory card has been removed. So if the switch (if one exists, this is just my theory) is held down some how and the memory card is switched it should work.

Hopefully that made sense!!!
