Okay. Here's my guide, which will be posted on our PSP hacking site. It's not complicated, just hard to grasp at first.

Kernal mode is basicly a locked section of the OS, in which a normal user cannot access. A bit like if you try to go into a restricted area in a federal building. You will be sent away. All it is, is extra resources, so you can optimise your code to run faster. Kernal mode also allows access to further restricted modules, allowing new and better things to operate. It was open in 1.5, but EBOOTs could not be run, so at the time, there was no need. They only patched kernal mode AND EBOOT running in later versions.

Exploiting or illegally accessing it means to forcefully gain access to all these extra sectors. This can be done by overflowing the systems OS, allowing restrictions to be obsolete.

An ISO using an ISO loader is actually being run by the PSP itself, because these loaders use Kernal mode to trick the system into thinking there is a UMD in the drive, but forcing it to load from the memory stick. This means, that the game/movie will run full speed, if not faster, because memory-stick loading is faster. But this can only be done in kernal mode, because the resources such as the UMD drive are protected. Only authorised code or bypassing these protections can do this.

An ISO emulator is feasable, however against the law, and would produce a very slow and luggish result. Because you are not using the PSP's own methods which have been developed by Sony, and fully able to run UMDs at full speed, you have to use custom made engines, decryptors etc. This means that if we could run UMD's, it would be immensly slow, not to mention 90% incompatible.
Also, as i learned from other Dev's, ripping UMDs is illegal, because Sony has ruled that all of the methods around for ripping are a breach of thier copyright, and they won't authorise any methods any-time soon.

no. running ISO's on 1.5 is full speed, because you're using the psp to run it. You're just tricking the PSP into loading it from the MS. So, it will be even faster with loading times.

An emulator is sluggish, because you are using custom built engines, which were built without Sony's extensive knowledge and control of the UMD format.
