| | | | New Idea- booting 2.6+ on 1.5FW- Anyone with GTA? Hi There,
Forgive me if I go off on the wrong track completely, but I just had an idea that I personally can't try out as I don't have everything I require. I hope it hasn't been tried already...
This may fail, and it may work. Here's the proposal:
You will need installed on your PSP:
PSP firmware 1.5.
Devhook .41 with FW 2.5 image installed and selected to run.
GTA with game save exploit
Eloader 0.97, 0.96 or Choice (I had more luck with Choice here)
SXT Version changer 2.02 (Take a look here: http://www.sonyxteam.com/modules.php...download&cid=1)
With Firmware 1.5 and Devhook .41 installed, boot into firmware 2.5.
Then load GTA and execute the GTA exploit to run Eloader.
This is the bit i'm unsure of- as I don't own GTA and don't know if the tool will run from it, but:
Run the SXT Version changer, and even though Eloader/Choice says that it might be a kernel app, let it continue to do it's job. If this works, you should be able to set your firmware version to 7.5 (it's still 2.5, just shows in system information as 7.50) Note, this bit is safe if you follow the instructions as it only modifies the 2.5 firmware that you have on your Memory Stick and not the firmware on your actual PSP.
So, now the firmware you have installed in Devhook is 2.5 showing as 7.5, this should fool 2.6 games to run.
Now, I've done the above in 2.0 firmware using the TIFF exploit, I can get outrun to play the PSP logo but it won't actually start up. I'm hoping this gets past that!
Anyhow, could anyone with the appropriate tools give this a try and let me know how it fairs?
I have a good feeling about this, but perhaps it's already been tried.
If anything needs clearing up, let me know- I'm hoping to find someone with a PSP set up as close as possible to the above anyway! If it works, I'll do a write up. If not, i'll shrug my shoulders and say, "hey, it was worth a shot!"
Best of luck! |

But, I am currious if the e-loader will run at all...I see no reason why it shouldn't, unless there was an unsupported call or not enough ram due to devhook.

| | | | Thanks for your reply. Hmm, however, I got the version changer to work in 2.0 simply by chosing to let it run despite the warning that it required Kernel mode access. (2.0 doesn't have Kernel access either does it?)
This worked and I currently have firmware 7.5 installed using Devhook .41
This little bit of info was what made me think up the above. I still hope it can work! :-) And hopefully there's someone who can try it.
if Eloader doesn't work via GTA then we're bombed, but I had figured it did work, the GTA part is my blind spot here really, and it's likely where it'll fall on it's arse.
[edit]
Here's what I did with the 2.0 firmware:
Turn on PSP, boot Devhook .41 using firmware 2.0, load "Choice" through the TIFF exploit, then run the SXT version changer and set the flash to 7.5. Choice (Eloader) does throw up a kernel mode warning, however, I pressed X and continued anyway.
The next time I booted Devhook .41 into firmware 2.0, the system information showed firmware 7.5- The PSP remained on firmware 1.5 at all times.
I can play all games I own *except* Outrun in this configuration, so I was looking for a way to turn 2.5 into 7.5 and see if that works.

wait i have a plan what if you took your 1.5 and changed it to 7.5 dumped it then take the system software that has your version fi;le and put it in he 2.5 dump then ran devhook wouldnt that let you have the games on their too? |

Since the tiff explote doesn't run on anything but 2.0, 2.01+ cannot use this limited mode and thus cannot change thier versions (hence the need for a GTA savegame exploit).
As for Outrun, it needs some upgraded prx's (these are like dll's in windows) to run that are only on higher firmweres. Thus, changing the version is not enough.

| | | | Hi All,
It does indeed look like this won't work for the following reason:
Closed Flash access in FW's 2.01+ (Thanks "jcoolkatzerg" for that.)
*sigh*
Well, here goes:
"hey, it was worth a shot!"
Thanks for your replies! I'll keep prodding around. There's bound to be a hidden bug in the flash player of 2.71- Simply because of how comlex Flash can be. |
