its a company called GT Electronics, they said they wont touch the firmware, and they only want half the money as what sony wanted and they reckon they'll have it back to me in about 4-5 days fully fixed, sony guranteed me they would upgrade it if i paid them to fix it!! and they said it could take 7-9 weeks!!!

If it is the laser you can get a replacement one for around £30 (I don't know how much that is in dollars).

I didnt mean to be mean. lol. I might get a replacment laser. But it would be easier to get a new slim ps2 because, they are only like $130 now, and the laser for a v9 ps2 will probly cost like $50 and atleast $30 for someone to put it in, cuz i cant do it..

The laser you need for a v9 PS2 is a "KHS400C Sony laser" by the way.

Are you getting disc reading errors?, cos you may just need to re-align the laser.

The only reason I want to get the ps2 either fixed or a new one, is because I have alot of homebrew for my ps2, and it sucks for it all to go to waste because who knows how long it will take for a ps3 hack.
