Exploits can only happen if the lib version is exploitable. I don't think the libgif on any firmware that has gif support has got any loop holes to let a buffer overflow be executed and produce an exploit. The only thing that sony messed up on was the libtif version in 2.0 and like shit off a stick they patched that up with 2.01 (the only other downgradable firmware).
