Quite stupid suggestion. But maybe maybe

What if to try to launch homebrew app or something from the Update folder in Game folder (not game folder root).
Why not to create it and psp-exacutable pbp file there. The firmware udpate file is pbp too, so did anyone tried that?

That's the first thing anyone ever tried, ever since the beginning of PSP homebrew. No, it won't work.

Why? Well, the update EBOOT's are all "signed" with a Sony-issue key that is impossible to get outside the company. Unsigned EBOOT's won't run on the PSP, it must be signed and encrypted to run. If you were wondering, "Well, why doesn't anyone just borrow the signature off an official update?", there's a catch there too. The encryption technique parses the entire eboot, then signs the entire thing with a unique custom-fit key. If 1 digit of data is changed, the signature will be rendered invalid because the key won't match the EBOOT anymore.

If we could just break the encryption or get that key(stolen SDK! *gasp*), we'd be golden; homebrew would know no bounds, as we could run anything on any version firmware. Of course, then you'd have to follow the Xbox scene, and all homebrew would be technically illegal(which is why all Xbox homebrew is released through IRC, over FTP, or through bittorrent) because they'd be signed with a stolen devkit...that's how they make Xbox homebrew, with a stolen SDK.

Hmm, I see thanks, I knew that I`m asking something silly . And what about to fill the homebrewed eboots with the dummy data ( just like UMDs ) to fit the key. Or just all we need is an engine to render the correct signatures for our eboots, right? Pity.

Well, dummy data wouldn't do much. I didn't mean 1 file missing, I meant 1 digit of data...all the way down to the actual program code itself. One thing changes, boom, it's invalid. It parses the file, takes note of every 1 and 0, then signs it to perfectly match the pattern.

An engine to generate a signature is exactly what we'd need...only problem is that the only one in existance is in Sony's possession.

Just maybe....

You could always email SONY and ask for a copy of their encryption program.
