ok if you wanted to switch that index.dat file or any other file in that directory with the ones from 1.00 then update to 1.5 thats been done before with 2.00 thats how 2.00 downgraded

and sony has fixed those files and if the ones from 2.01+ are altered with then it will brick ur psp showing no psp version.....

Okay, 1st of all that wont work, 2nd it might no brick your psp if you switched it. 3rd if you switched it and it didnt brick it would read as "System Software Version" there would be no number, and with no number you would not be able to launch any update. The reason it does that is because the ipl in 2.5/2.6 checks to make sure it is the right version, so it wouldnt read if it was any other version.

Now, if you switched the index on a 2.01 it would work, cuz the only difference between 2.0 and 2.01 is that the tif is blocked, so technically the only downgradable firmwares with the MPH method is 2.0, and 2.01. 2.5/2.6 would either brick or read as "System Software Version" with no number, so you cant launch any update, not even the newest one.

if they do manage to write to flash0 does that mean that homebrew would be able to be launched from the xmb?

As soon as fanjita finishes his patch, then all you will have to do to launch homebrew from the XMB is, launch gta, then launch the patcher, after than it should bring you back to the XMB and you can launch any kernal or user mode app from the game menu in the XMB. We wont even need to write to flash 0, all this can be done in the ram, so no flashing necessary.

But could it be done in flash? If it could, there would be no need to start GTA every time.

It might be possible with ALOT of work, but do not expect it, it is hard enough to patch everything in the ram let alone boot homebrew from the XMB without the patch, As i said , it "might" be possible with alot of work, but do not expect it.

lol, there is no such thing as a 1.00 update, lol. And it wouldnt just be 1 file to be replaced, a couple files would have to be edited and switched in order to even think of having a chance of booting like that from the XMB without the patch, and what you said about replacing the flash with 1.50 or 1.00 is just stupid, that is flashing, and when it comes to flashing there is always a high risk of brickage, but if Dark_Alex perfects his Flasher/Downgrader then that would be cool, but still, having 2.6 with full homebrew from the XMB would be sweet
