Bad news...

well... do they HAVE to be encrypted...?

cant we just make a XMB from scratch and have it not require encrypted modules?

This has been known for a long time (well I knew and I thought most people did).

It needs to be encrypted for the psp IPL checks to read the firmware as sony signed (I think that is right or nearly right), that was a big giveaway to why the epilson bios was total bullshit, well the bullshit is what they were saying it could be ran from the mod-chip, it could be emulated with something like devhook (if they had even decrypted 2.71 which they haven't).

I never belived the epsilon bios thing, but it could have been run with the mod chip. Part of what makes the chip tick is a custom boot code that does not have the ipl checks that the biult in chip does. Basicly, if devhook can run it, the mod chip can. But the epsilon bios is still almost defenalty a fake, and untill someone cracks the ipl code, there will never be non-modchip custom bios's.

--afterthought--
I think it's possible to mod the ipl loading code. This is what alows us to downgrade from 1.5 to 1.0. But still, this is encrypted and untill it is fully cracked, there will be no custom f/w's.

this is y i stayed with 1.5 and didn't downgrade because i kinda knew making custom firmware would be hard since i tryied to do that with devhook swapping files from 1.5-2.5 and yea it didn't come out good because i got no where lol just got the internet browser to show up but it froze when i went to it then i got the new psp background when loading and yea thats about it
so untill someone can EDIT the files and then re-encrypt them i will downgrade or untill someone finds another way to make a custom firmware

Well we have an advantage here since we can get a fully decrypted copy of 1.00 and 1.50.
