UMD Movies Confirmed "Discontinued" From Target Shelves!

Some of the hip guys down at GamePro have just recieved solid confirmation about the removal of UMD movies from Target stores nationwide (US; still available online). A corporate representative at Target has stated that "[UMD movies] have been discontinued and aren't available at any of our stores" in an email response. Doh!

The UMD movie format was failing since to impress since the day the PSP was released, I'm not surprised. Lack of sales really hurt its favor in front of major media corporations, and a lack of practicality (ie pricing above the cost of regular DVDs, ability to save movies on memory stick and watch, etc) led to an overall lack of interest in the UMD format for movies to the PSP community. Recently, Sony has been hinting at promoting the memory stick format for retail movie distribution, lets hope this one doesn't end a flop as well (which, as it currently stands, appears to be).

Check out more information about this confirmation here.

No. Just UMD movies. Thank God, what a waste of retail store space.

Hehe anyone see The Boondocks UMD ads on this site? I was actually thinking of buying them on the 25th, i love the show. I don't think UMD movies are bad at all, I actually see quite a lot of people buying them, especially those who dont know how to convert movies.
