Firmware 2.6 UMD Emulation Announced!

0okm has just announced that he has successfully emulated UMDs on 2.6 firmware. This is great news for the PSP community; for the first time ever, a kernal mode application has been loaded on 2.XX firmwares. 0okm has released a handful of technical details about the findings in his blog, and has even posted a simple application which shows how it works. This should, in essence, allow for a 2.6 firmware ISO loaders soon enough, and eventually, much more homebrew as developers learn from the source code and apply the techniques elsewhere.

The topic of UMD emulation is very borderline-sketchy. PSP3D.com does not promote UMD emulation for illegal purposes, but, unfortunately, more often than not, we have to accept that this is how these tools are used (or should I say, abused) in the PSP community. Therefore, we will not be hosting these tools under certain circumstances; we want to see the PSP scene grow, not fail. Do yourself, the PSP homebrewing community, and Sony a favor and stay legal.

Check out 0okm's blog for more information on the success here.

I for one agree with every word of the last bit of the artical.
I dont agree with ISO loaders of any kind, All of them are damaging to sony (who made the PSP for us!) & the gaming community.
I use Devhook, Not to load ISO's but to emulate later firmwares so I can still have 1.50 to play my old game fave's.
So yes, Dont ruin the PSP, Like people did the N-Gage!!, Pay for your games & stay safe

EDIT:
The_Lead_Factor:
Wow, Didnt see your post, we agree on something!

some people actually use ISOs legally (ok some can argue that no ISOs are legal, but whatever if you own the UMD, the ISO is legit imo) and it is nice to be able to only have 1 UMD on you, and still play more than just that 1 game, and not have to carry around 5 UMDs wherever you go.... so i think its great

Well i agree that people shouldnt use ISO's, and almost EVERYONE that has a 1.50 has used an ISO atleast once, maybe with an anti piracy iso loader, then it would be cool..

I dont know but that is what I was saying in my post...Its a shame we dont have one. I used ISO's so that instead of carrying 4 or 5 UMD's, I can just load it up from my MS.

i dont think there is ever gonna be an anti-piracy ISO loader, i just dont see how it would be possible

i mean, you COULD make it so you can only use ISO you dumped yourself

but you could still rent a game, dump it, then return it... but i guess it would still cut down on piracy...

Where there is a form of media, There will be people who, Copy/Burn/Steal it for there own selfish gain regardless of the damages they are doing to the people who made it and the people who pay/use it legit.
The world it a bad place, Agreed, As long as you stay on the right side and stand for what you believe in then it will work that little bit towards making it a better place.
