Points: 63,550.32 Donate | | | Site News - 11/9/05 Well another long day at work/classes. I'm going to have a busy next few weeks. My plan is to get PSP 3D fully up to speed by the time the holidays roll around, so we can help out the new PSP users that enter our world! Heh..
Forum catagories should be done by later tonight, and as I said, downloads/uploads is on target to be finalized by Monday next week.
For all those former "KaotiX" portal users, just lettin' you know that PSP 3D (like it's predecessor, PSP-Media), is the official sponsor of the portal. Also, the portal is no longer called KaotiX, but rather, simply " X5". That's right, the X5 portal. And the latest PSP3D.com version will be coming out in a few days, so get ready, we'll have it hosted!
Here's a sneak preview of the upcoming version:
Want to support PSP 3D? Then use these forum signature tags that our friends down at themotec.com made for the site. Spread the PSP3D tidings amongst your peers! The more members, the better the site gets!
And here it is:
You can right click on it and use the image addy off our server, enjoy!
Now time for a few quick rounds of BF2, then back to work on PSP 3D.

I'm about to purchase a PSP and i'm doing my research before making the investment. If this screen shot is an OS that I can download and use on my PSP, then I'm buying this baby. I've basically been wanting to use the PSP for presenting videos, seeing as I'm a digital media production student, and would like an easy, portable way to show my video to clients. I think the PSP does this, plus gives me the options of using other cool programs and such...but I still need to gain some knowledge on the PSP and homebrew apps and what not. What are the limitations, advantages, etc? And how easy is it to downgrade/upgrade to be able to use my PSP in new ways? If anyone can lead me to a site that can tell me all things about the PSP, please send me a link. I'm looking forward to playing with my PSP! Just got the 3G video converter to convert my video's to PSP playable formats without hogging too much space. ALSO - does the psp have a built in hard drive? or does it only work off of memory sticks? Let me know please, I need to dive into all the info I can get! So far, this site seems like the place to start on my psp adventures.

If your PSP has 2.0 and above firmware, there is a browser built in to the firmware, which lets you view webpages. A portal is an HTML (browser-based) "OS" that looks and acts like a real, full-scale operating system, when it is in fact, a group of webpages linked together to create an OS-like enviornment. The X5 portal is pretty much one of the best portals on the web right now (I'm sure many people can attest to that), and it offers many small-scale functions that a real OS could do.
However, the screenshot you see is NOT of an OS, so don't plan to do any word processing or anything along those lines.
The PSP is a GREAT video playing tool, it has a crisp screen, and has a plethora of tools and websites available (such as this site, which under the old domain name, was a PURE media content website with tons of videos and downloads) which make transferring videos, music, pictures, and more, a dream.
Upgrading is a simple process, done by executing a Sony approved "EBOOT" file which takes you step-by-step through upgrading the unit. However, if you upgrade beyond firmware version 2.0, there is NO way to go back down to version 1.5 firmware, which is the one which supports homebrew applications.
Downgrading is done by a exploit in the 2.0 firmware, and is somewhat of a complicated process, but once you experience the process, it will become easy to do on-the-fly.
The PSP does not have a built-in hard drive, memory cards are the only main form of storing information (however, just a week ago, a external 4GB hard drive by Datel was released which connects to the PSP, it retails for about $199).
If I didn't answer all your questions or you have more, feel free to ask, it's always great to help out new ones to the PSP world.

Points: 4.34 Donate | | | wow Hi, Thanks for you indepth response. I'm looking forward to gettin the PSP. I actually went to get one tonight but the doors were shut 5 mins before closing! BestBuy will have to see me tomorrow I guess! Anyways, I do have some questions about the firmware....Is it better to stay at 1.5,2.0, or upgrade to 2.5 and do these upgrades cost money? I want to be able to go between homebrew apps in 1.5 but also use the features of 2.0 - what do you think is a good idea
? Basically I want the PSP to be my little media manager for videos and music primarily. Plus, I'm all about compressing compressing compressing so that I can fit as much as possible on this badboy...the 4gb hard drive sounds nice but I can't afford such a thing right now. I guess a 1gb memory stick will have to do huh? Now, does this memory stick have everything stored on it, including the portal? Also, how do I get ahold of the X5 portal? Last but not least, any homebrew app sites for the PSP you would recommend? Thanks! |
