Points: 8,740.39 Donate | | | Quake 2 PSP Project Back In Action! It's been a while since the PSP community has heard of McZonk and Team Emergency Exit, the developing team of Quake 2 for PSP as well as many other projects. McZonk has updated us on the hiatus, and plans to fully focus on the Quake 2 project, now that his bachelor thesis is complete.
Unfortunately, alongside the revival of Quake 2 for PSP, he and his team are dropping the Homebrew Manager and DualFlash projects, since the former lacks interest and the latter is now unnecessary, due to the release of the PSP modchip during his temporary withdrawal from the community. Whatever the case, it's great that one of the top developers has returned, and he even promises a brand new game, on top of Quake 2, coded from the ground up. Can't wait! [Source]

Anyway, it appears Quake 2 PSP stops or crashes everytime when it tries to load the tank model tris file if you use Quake 2 demo pak file. Maybe it's a memory thing or something.
However if you use the full Quake 2 pak file then it'll successfully load level 1... but then freezes.. apprently it doesn't render the ceiling of level 1....
Anyway, I been looking into finding some programmers to help port Quake 2 to PSP again. I compared the code used for Doom PSP & Quake 1 PSP.. apparently they all were based off MIPS related Pocket PC variants of Doom & Quake 1. I did try looking for Quake 2 MIPS variant.. it does exist but source code is hard to get. Once we have Quake 2 MIPS code then it's relatively easy to port to PSP. | |
