TIFF Space Invaders v0.1 Released!

SG57 has just released a new, handcoded, ACSII-based space invaders clone, specifically coded with the TIFF exploit in mind, ensuring compatibility for 2.7-2.80 (and 2.0, 2.01, 2.5, 2.6) firmwares. Inspired by the work of Art, and his respective ACSII game in X-Flash, SG57 takes an awesome new perspective to the space invaders concept: simple and fun. He also states that he is working on a few other ACSII-based TIFF games, and plans to release them in the near future. Great work SG57, it's great to see more and more TIFF games popping up!

Red face

I was telling PSP3D that one frame of the game doesnt really capture it all, not to sound corny. There's a nice starfield background constantly moving making the situation look faster pace than it really is There's a powerup that upgrades your weapon to dual cannons with 2 different levels of charge so instead of firing 2 paralell shots just to have one miss, and the other miss, one goes slower than the other, allowing for better accuracy. But, this special powerup only appears once you progress to a certain point in the game.

Oh and Im looking for someone willing to test some new games that are in the making while 2.8 and possibly 2.5+ users wait for some hope of an eLoader. Currently, I have a Breakout Clone called 'Brick-Out' 80% done. Just need collision with the actual bricks, scoring and barriers and physics are all perfect so...

I also have a labyrinth game Ive created that allows a labyrinth built out of mere 1's and 0's in a file to be navigated using your PSP. Obviously, you need to escape the labyrinth, but I say, took me 5 minutes to complete one I built just because of the sheer size of this beast.

I also have found the concept of a game way back in the 1980s or so called Ogre Chase where Ive made it into an ASCII simple yet addictive game to keep you busy. Your a single character (pun intended )and you have 3 ogres around you, all with 3 different AI levels. The objective is to run like a crazy man and get your score up. Weirdly enough, I started sweating i played it for so long...

I also have another gmae that is the first of its kind, both for the TIFF exploit and the PSP itself. Its a type writer game fused iwth DDR, so as buttons go b the screen, you need to press them to determine your WPM (or BPPM - Button Presses Per Minute?) and your accuracy. Its fast paced so if you like that kind of thing, youll want to try it out.

I have more plans for this game here (Space Invaders), meaning bosses and endless play (well, til level 100) but I find new homebrew to stretch a wide variety of interests is better, before I start updating on current ones. Note, even if the an eLoader comes out, a 2.8 one is said to take atleast a month from the 2.7x one, so 2.8 users will be happy im sticking with my little hobbies of creating ASCII games and optimizing them until they are quality.

Phew... So ya, anyway, I go on IRC, QJs and possibly this sites if you have one, my AIM is sg57pimp, email is JordanSg57 [at] gmail [dot] com and my MSN i barely go on so... If youd like to take part in testing some games and helping me improve upon them before I go about starting soething new, just contact me some how.

Actually, this does work on 1.5

Just for fun I tried running it via Devhook in emulated 2.71. It worked fine! I'm sure plenty of other people have done this already, but I just figured I'd mention it in case people wanted to know. Exiting brought me back to 2.71 and everything seemed fine.

Great job on this little game, by the way! I'm looking forward to your future releases. This was the first TIFF exploit game I've bothered to try (since I've got a 1.5), but I'm glad I did.

In case you run out of ideas, I have a challenge for you. :-)
Check out the game Spout http://wiki.gp2x.org/wiki/Spout and see if you can remake it as an ASCII game. There's a Windows version available via the main site that is linked from that wiki page. It's a nifty, simple, addictive little game. So it has many of the same qualities of your Invaders game. ;-)

Glad you liked it. Ill check that out, im ALWAYS willing to port/make something in ASCII for the sheer challenge. Oh and how easy it is to debug and the space on the memory stick is very small.
