2.71 SE-B Custom Firmware Released!

Dark_AleX, Mathieulh, and Harleyg have just released custom firmware 2.71 SE-B, the successor to the extremely popular 2.71 SE-A custom firmware released around a month ago. The custom firmware allows for users to enjoy the best of both worlds: up-to-date firmware as well as homebrew support. SE-B sports a load of new capabilities and features, as mentioned in the previous news post.

Users wih SE-A already installed can update to SE-B from 2.71, just copy the directories seb_update from SEB_UPDATE/PSP/GAME150 to /PSP/GAME150/, and run it. After you press X, the update will be done momentarily.

SE runs all homebrew from the /PSP/GAM271 folder using the 2.71 kernel.
To run applications with the 1.50 kernel, and have about 99% compatibility with current homebrew, place those applications in the /PSP/GAME150 folder.
/PSP/GAME can be configured in the recovery menu to either execute 1.50 homebrew or 2.71 one (by default is set at 2.71 for compatibility with previous version).

Native UMD emulation is now available in the custom firmware. ISOs are shown under memory stick games. Currently ISO and CSO are implemented, but for technical reasons, DAX is not implemented yet, however, may be done in the near future. At the moment they require an UMD to be inserted in order work.

Note: Whenever you do an update to the ISO folder (add, delete, change files, first SE-B execution), a little delay will ocurrer when entering in memory stick games. While the ISO folder is not changed, this won't happen.

Yep - And I love it! Installation is extremely easy, and you can make the folder GAME into your 1.5 homebrew folder, and GAME271 into your 2.71 folder! Fantastic!

Just wanted to say that this means that InstalloTron will work with 2.71SE, a feature very much requested.

How To
-------

  • Load recovery mode (Press R when booting)
  • Enter Configuration
  • Go down till you reach "Game folder homebrew"
  • Press X untill it turns to 1.50 kernel. (Something i think you should turn on anyway)
  • Now just use InstalloTron (which thinks you are 1.5, which in game, you are)

Nice work Dark_Alex.

What are the current reported homebrew which are not working at the moment? It's so tempting to upgrade to SE-B!

Great work crew.

No matter what I test, it all seems to work fine. It's definitely worth upgrading!
