Firmware 2.82 Released!

Sony is at it again, they have just released firmware 2.82. Apparently the only change is a security update. Why did they do this? Well, maybe they found a flaw in 2.81, maybe there are some new files for the camera/GPS. Or maybe they are just trying to mess with our heads!

You will definitely not be able to use homebrew games and applications if you decide to upgrade, and it'll most probably be many, many months till it's cracked. So remember to choose carefully, but whatever you do, have fun!

Question uh?

i'm looking at the update page at the official playstation (US) site and it still says 2.81. where did you find that update, if it's real? if it does turn out to be real, maybe its for that new loco roco demo that's coming out, the halloween version. and it might also have something to due with 2.81 being decrypted or something, i'm not sure. just would like more info cause i'm skeptical about it as of now.

My guess is that it's for the new Loco Roco, plus security updates of course .

Or maby its got nothing to do with security. Maby they edited the legal stuff after all that talk about updates not being valid.

I highly doubt that, seeing how that story was wrong... I'd be willing to bet that they just changed the encryption key so we can't use existing programs to decrypt it.
[edit]
My bet was wrong; you can still decrypt it. Apparently, the only noticeable change is that vsh\module\msvideo_plugin.prx is 128 bytes smaller. Hmm.

My first thoughts were they've brought it out ready for the release of gta in a few days.. But im probably wrong. Unless sony found a tiff like exploit in the video player?? (like the one found in photo in 2.71)

Eesh, it's been a while since we've had a X.X2 firmware. Probably had something to do with the firmware encryption, for DevHook.

I like what the readme said after I downloaded it from this site. It was funny.

There is no reason to update to this firmware unless you have 2 PSPs or you are a idiot
