Points: 113.66 Donate | | | For what it's worth, the security in 3.0 seems significantly increased over 2.8X, so if you have any interest whatsoever in homebrew, you shouldn't upgrade.
You're likely to get 3.0 on devhook much sooner than getting anything else on 3.0. |

From what I've seen over at ps2dev.org, not only has the security been increased, but the actual file system for flash0 has been completely altered so that it's not longer a standard FAT system. Some folks are even saying that the file system itself has been encrypted. Yikes.

I saw that over there. Yikes indeed. Hopefully it's only a loose encryption, but knowing Sony, it could be really tightly encrypted...

Wow, after months and months of specualtion, and firmwares 2.71, 2.80, 2.81 and 2.82 constantly delaying the release, and everyone looking forward to it, I would've thought there would be MUCH more hype.
I love the new features, but I'm not a big fan of file system encryption.
I particularly like the ability to turn off UMD auto-load. Looks like Sony saved all the little nifty features and all the best protections for this update.
From what I've been told and have looked at, the file system IS still the standard one but encryption or modification has been laid upon the NAND.
I hope Booster etc, can crack it so we can emulate it; mind you, we still haven't got 2.80/1 yet!
