With all the new hype over firmware 3.0, it seems Sony is trying to use it to sway some PSP users over to the "dark side," or Sony's homebrew-incapable PSP side. Today in the mail, I received a booklet from Playstation Underground. When I first saw the booklet, I had one of those "do they
really think this is going to work" moments. As I read through the booklet, I saw probably five pages of advertisements for new game releases, after which I came upon the PSP functions section.
This booklet was obviously intended for people who don't have a PSP, or are new to the PSP, because this section, in detail, described the PSPs basic functions: from Photos to Location Free connectivity. On the last page, it talked about the "new" features of the PSP, or 3.0 features. PSP-PS3 connectivity, PSP demo download locations, and the PSP Camera. Attached to this booklet was a $5 off coupon to BestBuy for a PSP game, which I intend to use!
From what I see, Sony is attempting (again) to reach out to consumers with fancy games and new features in new firmware. Could they possibly trying to get people to update before their minds can be lured into the homebrew community? Think of this what you will, but I'm getting $5 off at Best Buy this weekend!
