Atari Facing Corporate Instability?

Looks like Atari is having some internal issues lately that have started to cause the company anxiety. Holiday quarter sales were lower than expected, the CFO (Chief Financial Officer) just resigned, and the company, itself, believes its future is a "going concern", which is definitely not good for future growth.

Hope is not lost though, an Atari representative states, "...We will look to increase our marketshare on portable devices such as Nintendo DS and Sony's PSP as the demand for quality titles for these formats continues to grow."

Atari can't go down the tube. They are a great company and started the grassroots of gaming. And some of their recent titles aren't half bad, either.

Atari died a long time ago. Hasbro bought the rights and resurrected the company several years ago, but as far as I know, it contains none of the original Atari guys. In fact, it was an evolution of Humongous Entertainment, who were bought by Infogrames, who were bought by Hasbro and rebranded as Atari. Since Hasbro owns the rights to the old Atari content, they saw a moneymaking opportunity and created a new Atari.

That said, they have released a number of good games under the label. Hopefully Atari won't have to die twice...

Because the whole idea RTS idea has now been exhausted, with the onset of StarCraft came tons of other games by other developers with the same concept. If Blizzard were to release a new StarCraft, it would definitely not be any where near as popular as the original and its respective expansion.

They would improve graphics, AI, etc, and before you know it, it will look like a space-age AOE III. The whole concept of StarCraft is its simplicity, capability to run on the slowest of systems, and being one of the first of its kind, it has a certain uniqueness and userbase that no other game can match.

I hope Atari never goes away. They've made so many games that I love. I'd hate to see them go down the toilet.
