As promised, we got in contact with our source, and to say the least, he sounded pretty dissapointed. I made it clear to him that even I felt cheated in a way, for being yelled at for posting his pictures, and being called a 'lier' by some of the community. Some claim that I made it myself for 'site popularity' reasons or whatnot, but I can assure you that is not that case, I have no interest in getting
negative publicity.
Anyways, here's his rebuttals to a few of the claims out there that the pictures were fake (in my words, since I talked to him on the phone, I can't quote text).Take a look at the magazine picture that apparently a lot people are TRUSTING:

Now, look at how when they went over the video icon and selected it, the videos are directly above and below the video icon. Strange...on 1.XX/2.XX, when you click the video icon, first you see the MEMORY STICK icon which you then click and it displays the available videos to the right. (see below)

And remember guys and girls, the "3.0" picture you see above the picture above is a legit tech demo shot. So what are we all going to do, call the supposed "tech demo sceenshot" a fake too? There's just something about demos and BUILDS, they are not FINAL releases, so they aren't finished. Sony makes
many, many different builds of 3.0 DAILY. They tweak small things, and play around, with stuff such as font, centering, everything. Who said this was 3.0 final, we clearly stated the pictures we recieved were just a 'build'.
Next off, some people have been wondering what some of the icons do.

That icon highlighted above is for going right in the list of available options/icons. Hence an arrow, and a box.
As far as font, some people have gone to extents of making us some nice screenshots shots closing up on the "2"s of the firmwares. As you can clearly see, there is a font difference.

Correct, a font difference. Any pro PhotoShopper wouldn't get that lazy, but who knows.
Now for the wavy background of the EBOOT shot:

Some say it could possibly be a 1.5 PSP with PSPSet, with another installed background, which is why the wavy lines show up. Our source claims that that is part of the Update background video (something new they are doing), and that there is a glitch which is making the two overlap. Even I thought that's far-fetched, but I still have some sort of confidence in him.

Another thing I find interesting is the light at the top right of the screen. Why? The date/time should easily fit there, and we should be able to see a part of it (based on 1.XX/2.XX standards). Different slimmer font? Hmm.
Another interesting point noted, is the other minor differences in the purple tech demo screenshot. Notice that the wavy background differs ever so slightly from the wavy background on 1.XX/2.XX PSPs (there are only two
distinct wavy lines, rather than four). Uh oh, once again, is the tech demo picture considered a fake? Nope. Just another small change in a build of a firmware?
I'll leave it at that, I'm trying to present all the facts we have. Once again, I am not claiming anything, so think about this for yourselves. He may provide me some more screenshots/a video in the near future, but I may just have him post it on his own website, to make sure you all know that PSP 3D is not involved. We just relay the news.
Final Verdict:
In my honest opinion, either both the pictures we got and the tech demo picture (which we have believed to be legit, being in PSM and all) is a fake or a mess up/poor reporting on the magazine's part, claiming it a tech demo shot when in fact it is Photoshopped...or they are both real.
