GameStop appears to have cut the price of the PSP Giga Pack bundle, which is basically a PSP with a 1 GB memory stick, in its Ireland branches. Word from Sony is that it is a retail price cut, as in, GameStop initiated the reduced price, and the manufacturer's price (Sonys) is still the same. Will we be seeing a cut in the states soon? Hopefully yes, but with supplies of the PSP Giga Pack so incredibly low, I would be surprised to see such an action (especially when it is a retail initiated price drop). And anyways, this just seems to be a ploy by GameStop to encourage their new European market to buy from them.
"As part of plans to secure an even stronger foothold in the European market, high street retailer GameStop has slashed the price of the PSP Giga Pack in its Irish stores.
The Giga Pack, which includes a PSP, stand, a USB cable and a PSP stand, officially retails for GBP 214.99, or EURO 309.99.
However, GameStop is now offering the pack for GBP 189.99 (around EURO 275) in Northern Ireland. Stores in the Republic of Ireland are selling the pack for EURO 289 (just under GBP 200).
According to a Sony spokesperson, the price cut is not the result of a directive from SCEE, but simply a promotional activity by GameStop. "This is an initiative in Eire only, and it appears to be retail led and not through SCEE," the spokesperson told
GamesIndustry.biz."
