With all the recent PSP homebrew shells being released lately, one tends to forget the people who released the first true shell for the PSP, the PSP-OSS team. Although the person behind the PSIX shell (Fluff) was the one with the whole vision of a homebrew OS (Operating System) for the PSP, his team faded away for a while, and people lost hope in the whole idea. Then people started making web portals that look like OSs, such as our very own X5 ver 1.5, which had very limited functionality (being as they use HTML/Javascript coding), and only worked with 2.0 and higher. Shortly afterwards, LUA-based shells started to get popular, but then once again, people realized that LUA has its limitations, and really cannot serve as a basis for such big projects. So, PSP-OSS brought out the first shell based off pure C code, and the homebrew audience was thrilled.
"Hawk", PSP-OSS Teams's codename for their next iteration of the PSP-OSS shell, is looking just sweet right now, especially being as that is a v0.1 snapshot. Glad to see the PSP-OSS Team re-structuring themselves and continuing the projects that they started in the past. Plus, the functions they have listed are pretty dang awesome, really taking the whole shell idea and pushing to the max, to the point where it really begins to feel like an actual OS (Operating System) for the PSP. Heh, no wonder they called their team PSP- OSS (OSS actually stands for 'Open Source Shell', not really anything to do with 'Operating System')! Check out the PSP-OSS site from time to time to see their updates (although there is no additional information regarding "Hawk" on their site at this time) here.

1. It's dated 7-2-2005.
2. The PSP in the image is far too well-lit. A head-on shot like that, with that much lighting, is either a professional job, a 3D rendering, or a photoshop, since there's no flash.
However, I know that PSP-OSS is definitely real, and I wish them nothing but the best. |

The features don't look too far-fetched, and I trust the guy down there will have something nice in the future.
This will only work on 1.5 most probably (like the old PSP-OSSs). | |
