So we were 5 days off. In the spotlight section above, we introduced an article a week ago on the speculation of a new firmware for release on 4/20. We had pretty conclusive evidence at the time of the new 2.7 firmware hitting the streets on 4/20, so we was pretty stumped when we saw nothing released, and avoided a news update/article update until we figured out what was going on. Looks like it was delayed?

Anyways, today Sony Japan has announced the impending release of the 2.7 firmware on April 25th (exactly 1:00 AM EST April 25th), for Japanese PSP owners. It features all of the goodies announced at the PlayStation 2006 Business Briefing a month ago: Flash support, AAC support, more RSS options, etc. Hurray!

But be warned. I can confirm that the new 2.7 update does block the GTA hack/security hole to its entirety, and that you will no longer be able to use homebrew on your PSP if you do decide to update.

Here are all the goodies coming in 2.7:
Network:
- [Internet Browser] now supports Macromedia Flash contents playback.
*You need to enable the Flash contents playback in the [System Settings].
*The version of the flash player is Macromedia Flash Player 6 (a part of the functions is not supported).
- The settings of the [Internet Browser] is added into [Settings] -> [Connection Settings]
- The audio contents from channels in the [RSS Channel] section now can be saved into your memory stick.
- [Auto] option added to [Rate Change] in [Location Free Player].

Music:
- Added file extension to playable AAC format.

Settings:
- Added [Enable Flash Player] in [System Settings].
*To change this option, you need to connect to the Internet
- "Simplified Chinese" and "Traditional Chinese" added to [System Settings] -> [System Language].
- Added [RSS Channel Settings].
- Added [UMD Video L & R Button] into [Video Settings].

Other:
- Fixed some issues when using a memory stick with more than 2GB free space.
*This problem has not happened among the memory sticks sold in Japan until April 24.

just a bit off Admin it doesnt matter, I wonder why I was on the site in the 1st place this morning? This is the reason why they took so long, no HOMEBREW AT ALL! Well im not updating.

well, im not updating until i get either gps or camera (i have a 1.5) so i am going to probably sell it to buy a new 2.7 or something

this is a though one, im gonna wait until someone finds another exploit personaly before I update. Perhaps we will be able to do a similar thing with flash player as was done with the tiff images?
