E3 2008 Coverage

That's right, E3 2008 has officially began! I will be bringing you information on not just the PSP, but EVERYTHING. That's right, everything. Of course, major PSP news will be brought to the homepage, but you can find all other information right here.

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

- It was confirmed that Little Big Planet (PS3) will be definitely be released in October of this year. However, this is a delay from the original release date.

- Bioshock will be released for the PS3 in October of this year. It will also be receiving a new difficulty mode, Survivor, and exclusive downloadable content. I know I speak for most of us who own Bioshock on the PC or Xbox 360 when I say, "What about us?"

- Zipper Interactive, responsible for the SOCOM series, has announced a new game called MAG, Massive Action Game, for the PS3. What makes this game so special is the 256 multiplayer support! Yes 256 players in one game! MAG is planned to have 32 teams of 8 players all in one free for all.

- Sony has announced an interesting MMORPG for the PS3 and PC called DC Universe Online. You will create your own character and add powers, costumes, and choose between good and evil. The already established DC characters will serve as bosses in the game. For example, if you cause chaos in Gothom City, Batman will be sure to show you what-for.

- Chrono Trigger has been announced for the DS by Square-Enix. It has been confirmed for a holiday 2008 release and will have two versions released. One version will only use one of the DS' screens and the other will take advantage of both screens.

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

- Sony has announced low cost Greatest Hits games for the PS3. The games will be priced at $29.99 USD. The list will include:
Quote:
  • Resistance: Fall of Man
  • Warhawk
  • Call of Duty 3
  • Need For Speed: Carbon
  • Assassin's Creed
  • Rainbow Six Vegas
  • The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
  • Fight Night Round 3
  • Ninja Gaiden Sigma
- It was confirmed that Metal Gear Solid 4 will not be making its way to the Xbox 360, despite many rumors circulating, because of the lack Blue-ray support on the 360.

- id Software has announced a new Wolfenstein game for the PS3 and the Xbox 360. No release date was given.

- Capcom has announced that they will be making a movie based off of the Lost Planet game (Xbox 360, PS3). No release date or cast list was given.

- Nintendo has revealed that they will be making a new Mario and Zelda game for the Wii. They will also be making a new DS Zelda game. No other details were given.

- Remember Marvel vs Capcom? Well now there will be a Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe for the Xbox 360 and PS3. No character lists of release dates were given, but two different gameplay modes were. There will be Freefall Kombat and Klose Kombat. I think before this game is released, Midway needs to learn how to use spell check.

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008 - Nintendo and other updates

- Microsoft has announced a new Xbox Live Arcade (XBLA) game called Portal: Still Alive. This will be the same Portal game that was included with The Orange Box, but it will also feature a new challenge mode.

- Other XBLA titles have been announced like: Geometry Wars 2, Galaga, Uno, and South Park

- Animal Crossing Wii, officially called Animal Crossing: City Folk, has been anounced and is scheduled to release this year. It will have a new feature called Wii Speak. This feature will allow players to talk to each other via microphone.

- Sony has announced that Eternal Sonata will be released for the PS3 this coming fall. The PS3 version will have new quests and characters.

- Sega announced that Sambe de Amigo will be released on September 23rd, 2008 and it will recive downloadable content.

- Nintendo announced Wii Sports Resort, due this sping. A full list of games has not been released, but as shown in the demo, we can expect Dog Disk, fetch with the dog, fenceing, and Jet Sking. With this announcement, Nintendo also announced that Wii Sports Resort will be packaged with a Wii-mote attachment called the MotionPlus. This will add more persision to the Wii-mote.

- Nintendo has announced that Wii Music will be released in time for this holiday season. Wii Music will feature over 60 instruments that will all be controlled by Wii-mote.
Quote:
Play faster. Play slower. Skip a beat, or throw in 10 more. No matter what you do, Wii Music automatically transforms your improv stylings into great music. There are no mistakes—just playing for the pure joy of playing.
As you can see, this will not be like Guitar Hero or Rock Band. So if you're musically challenged, like I am being a music major who plays Trombone and Drums, this game is for you

- Sony has announced Resistance: Retribution for the PSP. It will be a third person shooter and will be released in the sping of 2009. I know I can speak for the majority of us when I say "FINALLY A GOOD PSP GAME!"

- Sony has also announced a PSP Entertainment Pack that will include a PSP Slim, a copy of Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters, a 1 GB Memory Stick, a voucher for Echochrome, and a copy of the movie National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets. This will be priced at $199 USD

-
Nintendo has announced new third party games for the DS.
Quote:
  • Guitar Hero: On Tour Decades - a follow-up to On Tour, which sold 300,000 units in its first week.
  • Spore Creatures - This game is supposed to emphasize player creativity and sharing, according to the E3 description.
  • Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia - coming November 10. It's the Pokemon Ranger sequel (Pokemon Ranger: Batonnage, we think) as localized for US audiences.
  • Grand Theft Auto: China Town Wars - We're guessing it's a tentative title, but basically, you can now expect a GTA installment on the DS, complete with free-ranging gameplay. This one will be set in modern day Liberty City, so it should be quite exciting.
I know I speak for many of us when I say "Never thought a GTA game would appear on the 'kid friendly' DS."

Monday, July 14th, 2008 - Microsoft

- Fable 2 will feature online co-op gameplay. The game is also finished, as announced by Peter Molyneux, and they're just working out the bugs now. Look for Fable 2 this October.

- Xbox Live is getting a complete tune-up. It will now have a brand new GUI, Avatars created by Rare, and a new community channel that will feature a Live Party function.

- Final Fantasy XIII will also be coming to the Xbox 360 as well as the PS3. No release date has been announced as of yet.

- Resident Evil 5 was also announced for the Xbox 360 and the PS3. It will take place in Africa and will follow series favorite, Chris Redfield. Chris is no longer a part of STARS and is now a part of a new orginization called BSAA. Resident Evill will also feature an online co-op mode that will enable players to get through different puzzles. Resident Evil 5 will be on store shelves on Friday, March 13th, 2009.

- The Ghostbusters game was also covered by G4's Xplay. While this game is multiplatform, I was able to see a demo for the Xbox 360 version. You play as an equpitment tester, or the fifth Ghostbuster as it has been refered to, and you test out all the new equipment. You are also sent in to the action first so the spotlight is on you. This game will feature new gadgets such as a Slime Teather, which binds ghosts down with slime. The other Ghostbusters will always be there with you, giving you orders and will be voiced by the original actors from the Ghostbusters movies. The different versions of the game will feature different versions of multiplayer and it was confirmed that there will be online play for the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions. More multiplayer information will be revealed at Comic Con 2008. Look for the game in stores this coming fall.

Of course there will be downloadable songs for the next-gen consoles. It was also confirmed that there will be up to 20 free songs for download this fall and will be compatible with the first Rock Band tracklist. I couldn't find a release date, but guessing by the downloadable song date, I would guess this game will be out by the fall. By I may be wrong.

- Xbox Live and Netflix users will now be able to watch Netflix movies on their Xbox 360s over the internet. Microsoft has announced that there will be a service like this coming this fall.

- Bungie Studios will be releaseing a new Halo game, but not like you think. Halo Wars will be an Xbox 360 exclusive and will take place 20 years before the first Halo game. It will also be a Real Time Strategy game. It will feature new units, co-op gameplay, and online gameplays. While there is no official release date, Bungie is estimating a release duing spring of 2009.

- Gears of War is back and ready for a sequal. Gears of War 2 picks up right where Gears of War left off. And it packs a punch too, as seen in the demo Marcus and Dom will be using the Locusts tools against them. There will also be a new playable mode called Horde. It's a 5 player co-op mode where players take on waves of increaseingly difficult waves of Locusts. This game will be released, worldwide on November 7th, 2008 only on the Xbox 360.

- Fallout 3 also made an appearence. The games doesn't take place in post-apocalyptic California anymore, but now Washington DC and in 2277. It will feature first person or third person camera angles. Say goodbye to Vault 13 and hello to Vault 101, you're new origon. The gameplay can be done in real time or be paused for VATS (Vault-Tech Assisted Targeting Systems) which is a nice way to aim at your enemies. Familiar factions and characters will be returning such as Dogmeat, The Enclave, and The Brotherhood of Steal. Fallout 3 will be released this fall.

MORE COVERAGE WILL BE POSTED AS IT COMES IN!
