Im a bigger fan of rockbox anyway, but unless the OS is extremely differently written on the 8gb which isnt impossible due to a double size hard drive, then the partition should work fine. |

Like sony, they should only make 8 gig memory sticks, everyone would be happier, they would have more sales, and it wouldnt cost any more to make... |

Rob, I think sony would make 8gb MS if they could!!! Theres a difference in being able to make 8gb flash memeory and making 8gb flash memory that will fit on a 2cm chip! it just isnt economically feasable yet, but will be soon.
As for linux or rockbox, it depends on what you want. I put linux on my 5g today for the first time and didnt get on with it. Whilst linux is more heavily supported with many many plugins, its a headache to anyone who doesnt use linux, or just wants a little more than an mp3 player.
Rockbox is the opposite. Its as easy, if not easier than the original FW but you lose out on features. Having said that, I play full-colour doo 2 at pretty much 100% speed as far as I can tell. You gain a little with rockbox, you gain a lot with linux, but linux is a headache and can take longer to remove from your iPod that it takes to install, as I am currently finding out, after multiple factory resets and resyncing my library twice! |
