Exclamation new mgs game not card based

Metal Gear Solid Sneaks Onto PSP

It's not often that you'll get a gift from a game creator, but Hideo Kojima has a Christmas present just for you: Metal Gear for PSP. But wait, you say, there are already two Metal Gear games on PSP. And you'd be right, but this one is special; this is a brand new Metal Gear Solid designed just for Sony's portable.

Metal Gear Solid B.D., as the game is currently code-named, drops the card-based interface of the two Metal Gear Acid games and returns to something more characteristic of the series. And while Kojima has said in the past that he's looking to break from the series that brought him superstar status, he's obviously enthusiastic about this one.

"Even though it's only on PSP, it's going to be pretty amazing," Kojima told Japanese magazine Famitsu, as reported by Next Generation.

With the platform jump from consoles to PSP comes a raft of changes, but Kojima is keeping those to himself, preferring instead to tease us with details:

"It might be too new for people. I don't even know if they're going to sell this thing. I mean, I find it interesting myself, though who knows what people will think of it. Really, though -- it's just a normal game. Only with one little thing radically different about it."

This isn't the first time that Kojima has strayed from the pack. The Boktai games on Game Boy Advance, which used sunlight to power in-game weapons, are exemplary of his lateral thinking.

There's no solid release date attached to this latest PSP project yet, but the game is expected to hit Japan sometime around the middle of next year.
