Hey!
First of all, I want to say hi. I left the scene only a month or two ago to pursue other hobbies and a new job. You can find the thread here:
[LINK].
Any-who, I know it's only been a few months, but I ended up quitting my job for reasons that are neither appropriate or needed to be said at this time. Another reason I came back was because I was fed-up with the fact that I melted my PSP's motherboard whilst installing the mod-chip. I then sold my new PSP to my brother who has since returned it because of boredom.
Hopefully I can still put as much dedication to this site and to the scene in general as I did before; Perhaps more-so.
I would also like to say that for the past few weeks, "Lostprophet" has been my messenger and almost 'apprentice'; Posting fairly regularly in these forums. I taught him the basics of the PSP and then pointed him to my "PSPG" site, which is yet to be released to the rest of the scene. He has learned a massive amount in the short space of time he's been around, and I can safely say he knows his stuff when it comes to the PSP.
Unfortunately, he has no idea about C for the PSP, and only a bit more when it comes to C for other platforms. However, he's very skilled with general code and memory manipulation and injection, or so he says. I'm not sure how he'll use this skills for the PSP, or whether or not he will even be able to, I just hope they will be of a small benefit. (Excuse me if I'm talking complete gibberish, I don't know the first thing about file or code manipulation

).
Anyway, onto the second part of the thread. This should really be in homebrew/hacking but I thought I'd out the two threads together as this one relates to the previous in a way.
One of the projects I was working on just after I left PSP3D was called "Legal-loader PSP". It was basically an ISO loader that asked you to insert the UMD your ISO was ripped from so it would tag the ISO as legal, and brand it so that the loader would be allowed to emulate it. The idea was that the loader could only load ISO's that had been proven to have come from the user's UMD disk, and not downloaded or otherwise not dumped by themselves. To encourage user's to use my ISO loader, I was including a massive collection of extras and plug-ins. They included MP3 players, cheat devices, an ISO/CSO cache (inspired by Chunglam's version), overclocking, and quick saves (so save points were unneeded; This was not compatible with all ISO's and not always work properly). Obviously, most of these features had not been completed, and a few had not even been started. I was also writing a tutorial on writing custom plug-ins.
The only problem was, as I discovered later, there is no such thing as a legal ISO loader. I had no idea up until that point that even emulating a dumped ISO was against the law. So, the ISO loader was pointless. I archived and deleted the original source code and haven't looked at it since.
So, I was thinking, do any of you have any ideas as to how I could make something that had benefits if it was done legally, so as to encourage legal PSP use?
I don't have any other ideas, and I'm not even sure if there's anything else really "Piratey" about the PSP.
