2) The PS3 is too expensive. $600 is just too much for a console.
Xbox core + 20 GB hard Drive + HD DVD = $598.00 without tax..
If this is too expensive, better stick to the wii.
3) Paul Allen was right-- "People will buy two consoles, an Xbox 360 and a Wii, for the price of a PS3 [and a game]."
Not quite. See #2.
The Core Xbox is unable to save games without a mem card or hardrive (extra), and XBOX 360 will never play HD DVD games, so all games have to be either smaller than 4.7 GB or on multiple disks. And I do mean MANY multiple disks. But still, the Wii rocks. Sweet.
4) There is a HUGE lack of developer support for the PS3. Many third party companies are refusing to develop for Sony's console purely because it is too difficult to do so and because Sony has been too cocky as mentioned prior. PS3 can program in C and other high level languages.
The reason everyone says that the PS are hard to program for is because the PS2 required you to program in a home made coding language.
5) The Cell is a very difficult processor to code for, and as such it will take several generations of releases to truly harness the capabilities of the PS3. Nope to the first half, but YES to the second.
I also believe that the XBOX360 is not being used to ITS full potential yet either, and that BOTH consoles will be neck and neck for a while.
But not forever.
6) There is simply a crappy launch lineup. Resistance and Rainbow Six: Vegas are undoubtedly the only good games out there for the PS3 right now.
AMEN. If you do not have a PS2 library by now, then wait a bit until after the holidays to try and get a PS3. Better games are coming, but not out yet.
7) There is no rumble support in the SIXAXIS controller. This may not seem big, but tactile feedback actually adds a lot more to games than one might think.
I don't know dude. I had to turn mine off during REAL games, the month long hours of leveling up ones. After a while, it just makes your hands numb.
Besides, I am hoping for a new Katamari Damacy that uses the controller to roll! | So in summery, I agree with him on points 6, and I half agree on points 5 and 7.
Here is all you really need to know:
Xbox360 -Year's head start, Microsoft $$$
PS3 - Brand Name, Massive Specs, Potential
Wii - YEARS of classic games, Innovative/fun party system, cheap.
^_^ I think that covers it.
Oh, and for extra support on Number 2, you can see a reference here.
And most important, if you want the down and dirty, nitty gritty details of the differences between these two systems, read about them here.

In fact the last game we did was all C++. He was right about it being too difficult, the architecture and memory structure is a nightmare, and quite a few companies went too xbox instead, just because of this. Its the reason middleware has done so well.
As for developer support for PS3, i haven't heard anything specific, but if its anything like PS2 support, its pretty lame.
Personally id go for a 360 right now. IF the PS3 does take off, it will be a while till its worth having one, and it being xmas right around the corner, there are plenty of nice bundle deals on the 360 to consider.
EDIT: oh, and don't forget Gears of War, awesome game

Of course the PS3 is expensive, because sony know that every unit will sell out regardless. Once the market has settled down, developers will see the massive potential of the large PS3 consumer market.
Have to say Im tempted to buy a Wii though! That will satisf my next-gen lust until the PS3 has a decent lineup, and they (hopefully) sort the back-compatability issues.
All in all, don't listen to anyone, everyone has their own opinions for their own reasons, choose the console thats right for you, as geeky, cliche and all it sounds. Some people want to be blown backwards when they hit the power button by the graphics, others want to laugh out loud at fun, comical games.
Do your own research into the games, present and future, pro's and con's, and then you'll know what you really want. |
