PS3. The gfx blow the 360 away, and the ps3 can do homebrew. If you have got the cash, hop on the ps3.

Co sign with the dude above, the wii is absolutely amazing..i mean Far Cry looks so shitty but plays like a dream supposedly..heck even i was skeptical and im no fan boy either, i grew up with sega, went to dreamcast, went to ps2, went to xbox, went to psp, and im startin with nintendo for the first time this generation.

I'd buy a 360 because it has great games going for it eg. Gears of War, Halo 3, but PS3 is nice also so it's upto you.

Personally i was going to get the xbox360 but my friend told me last year to days after the launch that all his games didnt work just 3 of his 60 games worked Halo,Halo2,Fusion Frenzy,So i have made up my mind screw the xbox360,plus the playstaion 3 offers the same as the xbox360 plus free online play chat and downloadable demos.oh also a upgradable HDD not to many games out there right now but once they start shipping more ps3 and more people snatch them up the more exclusives it will get.And the Wii is a nice piece of hardware if you are 10 years or younger.The ps3 has way more to offer plus homebrew has been introduced to it through the great OS Linux,i wouldnt be suprised within 4to5 months you'll be able to rip games to your HDD through Linux.So like every one else has said it your choice, im just herer to remind you to make the right one.

go with the 360. I have a few specific gripes about Sony and their PS3:

1) Sony is too cocky. "The PS3 is not a gaming machine!" -Ken Kutaragi. "The first 15 million will sell even if there aren't any games." -Ken Kutaragi
2) The PS3 is too expensive. $600 is just too much for a console.
3) Paul Allen was right-- "People will buy two consoles, an Xbox 360 and a Wii, for the price of a PS3 [and a game]."
4) There is a HUGE lack of developer support for the PS3. Many third party companies are refusing to develop for Sony's console purely because it is too difficult to do so and because Sony has been too cocky as mentioned prior.
5) The Cell is a very difficult processor to code for, and as such it will take several generations of releases to truly harness the capabilities of the PS3.
6) There is simply a crappy launch lineup. Resistance and Rainbow Six: Vegas are undoubtedly the only good games out there for the PS3 right now.
7) There is no rumble support in the SIXAXIS controller. This may not seem big, but tactile feedback actually adds a lot more to games than one might think.

I own a 360, and have played the PS3.
One thing I must say about the PS3, it was way too overhyped by sony. The graphics are hardly comparable, Gears of war looks better than ALL of the PS3 launch titles, and there won't be many good titles for a while. I guess I will break it down in to categories.

Graphics/Processing power
In terms of benchmarkable processing power, the PS3 is more powerful, but in terms of programmable power, the xbox 360 owns the market by a landslide. 3 general purpose cores is much easier to program than 7 SPE's. Think of it this way, you are in a kitchen cooking a large meal for 15 people, you have seven different smaller dishes going at the same time, it is harder to cook 7 dishes than it is to cook 3 large dishes. Ok, I know that that is a pretty bad analogy, but it is kinda like what it is like. The xbox 360 also has a significant amount of graphics bandwidth available, something like 224GB/s while the PS3 only has 32GB/s or something around there.

In conclusion of this section, in terms of what the developers are able to program, the xbox 360 will be more powerful since it also has an excellent SDK (software development kit)

Online Play
Xbox live is now on its second console, they have an excellent system that many people love. Playstation network is brand new, and is not too great right now, but it probably will get better in the future.

Gameplay
The xbox 360 already has a slew of excellent games released, with plenty more good games coming, and there is rumble. There are also many cheap budget titles that are very fun and inexpensive. The PS3 just launched, and has a pretty bad lineup. The sixaxis features in games are pretty badly implemented, seems more of something they just tacked on. if you want an interactive experience, get a Wii, nintendo has done much more testing and bug squashing than sony has done with their technologies.

Availability
Xbox 360's are so easy to get, you can almost buy them at your cornerstore a block away from your house. PS3's and Wii's still have lineups when stock comes in, unless you want to turn to ebay.

All in all, a 360 is a much better buy, Gears of war is one of the best reasons IMO to get one, it is an amazing game, almost flawless (i have gotten a few graphical errors, but that is it).

But it is still your decision, but I highly recommend buying a 360 over a PS3, then you can also get a Wii on top of that and it is the same price (Wii+360) as a PS3 and a game.
