Xbox 360 Disc Problems

I am thinking of getting an xbox 360 and im wondering if the disc scratching problems are as bad as people are saying.
ive seen this video:

and i expected that would happen if you tilt it when playing it, cos it is spinning pretty fast but can nudgeing it slightly (by pulling your wired controller or something) damage your discs?
