| | | iPod Firmware Ideas Heyy guys!! Right, ima get things kicked off with regards to iPod firmware.
We can hack PSP Firmware. We can make a computer do just about anything.
We have iZilla , RockBox and iPodLinux - But what about the ORIGINAL firmware?
iPodWizard (iPodWizard.net - Home) does change a LOT about the ORIGINAL firmware, but doesn't give any options to do much.
It changes the way the firmware looks.
The iPod Firmware currently supports MP4 format videos, and the usual music files - However, can this be hacked?
We've done it on the psp with the likes of mp4 bitrates, the psp can now playback WMA files thanks to Sony and Microsoft shaking hands, it can also playback FLASH, again thanks to Adobe and Sony shaking hands.
What i'm looking for is to start something good here. I'm gonna make an iPod Customisation forum, that focuses on customising the main firmware and finding out a way to actually update the iPod to it. I don't know much about the iPod firmware, but I'm sure as hell gonna find out!
So, what I need is..: Scripters
IDEAS < Main one!!
People who are enthusiastic enough to help get the scene going.
Intuitive people, people who speak their mind.
What i WANT is:
Publicity. Help with a domain (i can run on a free domain for now, but going to a paid-for public domain takes donations etc)
Possible site hosting if someones willing?
Administrators and moderators.
The PSP scene is BOOMING with homebrew success that uses the original firmware.
Lets start an iPod 'homebrew' successful scene that uses the ORIGINAL firmware!
Cheers,
Get In Touch

For example The PSP has a 222 Mhz proceser, the iPod (5th Gen) I think has a 70, the PSP is actually designed to run code (even if it isn't 3rd party). The iPod is just not as flexible and what can be done to the iPod has pretty much been done, or is still in progress via Linux. |

I personally don't get the whole idea of running linux on an iPod. But then again, people probably say that about running SNES games on the PSP so yeah. |
