Problem: Error installing new graphics card driver.

Hi everyone!

Today, my problem is installing a new driver for an ATI Mobility Radeon x1800.
When the installer is going to install the driver, it says:

"The instaler didn't find a driver compatible with the current hardware or operative system"

Then a 2nd error appears:

"Setup was unable to complete the installation. Try to setup your display adapter with a standard VGA driver before running setup"

What should I do? I've been trying to install this thing for months...

Oh and 1 more thing: how can I make a windows 2000 support WPA?

have you got the correct driver? i.e. xp version, 98\2000 version
and is the driver your trying to install a self-installing "exe" driver or is it a load of files including .inf .sys .cat and a few other files.
the first version (exe) should not need installing it should auto-setup, the second method you could try selecting manual installation and select have disk and point it to the .inf file. but mainly check you have the correct os version driver.

I'm sure I have the correct driver, for the correct hardware and OS. I'm trying to use a .exe setup, that's where the errors happen. Also, I tried the 2nd method too but it says that can't find the correct driver.

For your driver problem, see if you can find the driver yourself on the CD. It should be an ini or inf file somewhere on there (autorun.inf is not it, try looking in one of the directories). Once you find it, rightclick on "My Computer," and click on "Manage." Click on "Device Manager" and then on "Display Adapters." Find the card in there, and double click on it (if the card is not there, try looking under "Unknown Devices," and it should be there). In that window, click on the "Drivers" tab and then on eather "Update driver" or "Install dirver." Point the wizard that pops up to install the driver that you found on the CD, and that should force windows to install the driver.

If none of that works, I can tell you another way to force it to install.

Ah, i assumed the video card came with a CD with the installer on it....hummm...that makes it tough. I wonder if the installer extracts to somewhere before it tries to install. If you can't find that temporary folder, PM me the link to the video drivers and I'll see if I can extract them out for you.
