Points: 3.61 Donate | | Are We Being Consumed by Technology? This thread is not ordinary thread. It has an important message. I'm sure alot of you have thought to yourself "Have I balanced out my life, and am I spending too much time on such a novelty?". I know I have; there have been times where I spend hours either on the PC or PSP, and at the end of it, I think to myself, was there any productivity or living in the outcome of the situation? No.
I first started learning about the functioning of the PSP and how to alter and add its capabilities because of pure boredom, and even just to learn something new. But without my realization, it has slowly been consuming my time for something that has no significance or importance.
If you look at the bigger picture, will all this matter in a decade? The answer is no. There will always be new technology, new things to explore, You should ask yourself "Has this device become a part of your daily lifestyle?" I know for a fact that there are other people that could be doing something alot more worth while and better with their time...
You are probably wondering "What is the message is in this". Well, it is simple. It is good to have a balance in all the things you do and most importantly, don't let technology consume you.

Well written thoughts there! Technology definitely takes over a large part of our lives in this day and age, both for productivity and for leisure. Whether or not this is a good or a bad thing is up in the air, at least in my point-of-view.
Technology makes us more efficient, and lets us get more work done, faster.
Technology also allows us to play games which resemble real-life things we would possibly never be able to do. Street race at 215 MPH, play professional football, or delve into the fantasy world of Mario (Nintendo reference, please kill me); 30 years ago "fun" consisted of reading books, running around outside, and playing cards, which I still seem to do, on occasion. But now we have more options! :>
However, it is necessary to be moderate in all things. Too much reliance on technology can destroy lives; the best option is to dedicate your time to a little bit of everything. Play sports, go out, have fun, study (if you need to), work, party, get laid, and then get on the computer or console and enjoy a little bit of free time. Unless, of course, your work depends on the computer! |

i use the computer and phone to talk to my friends, my girl friend, plan to hang out with some, things that are social.
then i come on here once in a while and check out the new things in the psp world every couple hours
most of the time im at a friends house
but even that relies on technology
if i wanted to goto my girlfriends house how do i get here
i drive
driving is technology
if i walk i dont want to walk naked with no shoes, i use factory made shoes and clothes
and i use cement sidewalks and cross streets at street lights
on the way there, there is cars and streetlights
at school theres lights computers tv's
everything
if i want to eat i cook something i dont go out and kill a cow and cook it on an open fire
i go into my refrigetator to get food bought at a grocery store to make on a stove, or in the microwave
our lives do revolve around technology and there is nothing we can do about it |

Robert A. put it out very well! | Actually, I guess it depends on the "type" of technology, I mean you cant really avoid using certain "aspects" of technology. |

Will the fact that you got a new pair of sneakers matter in 20 years from now? No. They will be smelly and rotten by then. In 20 years from now, will the food you just ate really matter? No. But in the moment it does.
The same concept applies to the PSP, the sneakers, and the food. In the moment the PSP sustained you from boredom, the sneakers helped you walk, and the food sustained your body.

Yes, technology CAN consume, but so can binge eating, alcohol, over-the-top shopping, and your job. It isn't just technology that needs to be kept in moderation, but the rest of the spectrum as well.
And to Robert A. Quote: |
or delve into the fantasy world of Mario (Nintendo reference, please kill me)
| Begone, cretin!
