I need help!

Right, so I need help to find a very little OS and a program that is able to see folders and files in other partitions.
It's because my win xp got a nasty virus that doesn't let me run the os. the os is booting with that small blue bar and then the screen get's blue and turns off the computer.

I need a little os because i'm almost reaching my download limit and I need it fast, and the other program is to see if I can copy those files from another partition to a dvd or usb drive.

So, what do you recommend?

plz, try to awnser as fast as possible.

can you install XP onto an external drive and boot from that? I know it's possible with OSX, but I'm not sure about XP.

I don't know... the last time I tried to do to that, it was with a computer who couldn't even boot from the usb. I don't care what OS is, as long as it is as small as possible and runs somekind of program like that that I described. I don't care if it is Windows, Linux or MacOS (Thought I never touched in a mac before

Slax doesn't support NTFS writing (the default XP file system) If you have FAT, or you are just trying to copy off of the drive, then you are ok. However, if you want to write back to your partition, check out Knoppix, if you can. I know it doesn't qualify as small (smallest one fits on a CD, just barely, DVD at the largest), but from there you can do anything because it has just about every single program you could ever need running under Linux from a CD/DVD and it supports NTFS reads and writes. Seriously, borrow a friend's computer for this, it is worth having around. Not to mention, cool. "yea, I have Windows! Well, I have Linux....ON A CD! BOYA!"

You do know its the 27th of May? that means you should have like 3 days left before your limit resets. (If it resets each month). So you may as well blow your limit now so you only have 3 days of slow surfing.

Or alternativley you could get a free linux distro through a PC magazine

Maybe there, the only thing that happens is that the connection gets slower. here, if I break the limit I pay much more. that is why im not downloading that big file.
